Picking a Rowing club for newbie

    Hello everyone,

I'm Miquel, from Spain. I've been living here in Dublin for 5 months now and started to think it's time for some workout and fun. I have a friend of mine who is an athlete and told me Rowing is a very complete training. So, off I go.

Before posting this I've been taking a look and surfing the web to see choices I have. I'm 34, don't use to work out at all but I've read some people have started rowing later than me. Hence, I guess it could be very suitable for me.

I've taken a look at UCD, St. Patrick and Neptune rowing clubs but don't have a clue whether they take new members now, if there's a minimum level to enrol and so on.

Am I missing some others more focused on newbie? Which one would you recommend me?

    I really appreciate your help.

    Best regards,

    Miquel

Hi impop There are quite a few rowing clubs around that are open to the public and willing to take on anyone interested. Neptune would be one of these http://www.neptunerowingclub.com/ you could also try Commercial RC http://www.commercialrc.ie/rowing/ I think Malahide also have a club or if you just want a bit of fun rowing about Skerries have a little club just setup and are looking for members.
    Good luck.

    Hi fergal,

Many thanks for the answer. MAlahide and Skerries are a little bit too far but I've already requested information to the other ones. Let's see how it goes.

    regards,

    Miquel

    Hi Miquel,

I'm a member of Commercial rowing club and I have to say its got the best facilities on that stretch of the river, proper weights room, plenty of boats etc. We train Monday-Thursday and out on the water every Saturday and Sunday, pop down at 7.30 any evening for a session....

Thanks Philip, sound great but I'm afraid that by the moment I can't take this commitment. 4 days per week are too many right now. Appreciate, anyway.

    Regards,

    Miquel
