Hi all, I recently tried hummus on oatcakes and I really like it, my question is are there any other ways to use it, example wraps etc? Im looking for a few suggestions on how to incorporate hummus more into my diet istead of just relying on oatcakes? Thanks in advance.

You can use it as a dip for raw vegetable sticks, or crisps/corn chips.

You can use it in place of butter in any wrap/sandwich.

You can eat it on toasted ciabatta topped with chopped tomatoes and garlic, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic.

Thanks a lot, I like the idea of not using butter in the sandwich, also dipping crisps into it, I will try them. :)

Oooo I love this question as I love hummus. There are so many uses as dips and spreads, most are mentioned above. For a low carb healthy option get a nice big salad or cabbage leaf, spread hummus down the middle of it and use it like a wrap with grated carrot, feta, toasted pumpkin seeds, chopped tomatoes, sliced avocado etc.
Hummus is really easy to make too and allows to play around with the ingredients a bit, its basically -

    1 tin chickpeas
    1/2 lemon squeezed
    1 glove garlic chopped
    1 tbsp tahini
olive oil or water to blend
    S&P

Add more or less oil or lemon and garlic, make it spicy with chilli powder, and roasted red peppers, or roasted squash, or chopped herbs

    Mmm getting hungry now!

Sorry to disrupt the thread, but I misread the title at first glance and have the words "Soylent Green is peopleeeee...!" ringing in my ears now :pac:

A really nice way to use it for a dinner is to spread it on a wrap or flatbread or pizza base and top with cooked mince (you can use a morrocan spice mix like ras el hanout and mix with finely chopped onions and peppers and grated carrot) then sprinkle pine nuts on top and grill/bake until the pine nuts are toasted (be careful they can easily burn)

I also like it with carrot and celery sticks as a snack or simply as a salad dressing (you can mix it with water or oil or lemon juice to thin it if its too thick for your taste).

I just adore hummus, so much so that I have to limit myself on how much/when I buy it - I would even eat it straight out of the tub with a spoon, on ricecakes, with a salad, as a veg dip......

    I love the aldi one.......

I love hummus too, but make sure you buy a high quality one made with only olive oil.

The supermarket ones are filled with crappy oils and aren't healthy at all.

Most healthfood shops sell the good stuff, it's a bit more expensive but worth it.

Just wondering if anyone knows if any supermarkets sell the good quality hummus at a reasonable price? Or is it just in health food shops? I've only seen 200g tubs in one small shop and it was 4.95 whereas the more processed version was only 1.50/2 euro in some places. Wasn't sure if 4/5 euro was the best price you'd get for buying the real stuff as it's a bit steep.

    Cheers and thanks in advance

I haven't found any in the big supermarkets. You just check the label, anything but complete olive oil is going to be made with unhealthy oils.

Olive oil is double the price so that's where the price difference is.

Would be much cheaper to make your own and from what I hear it isn't difficult.
