Or do tv manufacturers still make 2d only tvs ?

Seems 3d tv is failing so it would surprise me if only 3d tvs were available ...

You can still get standard 2D TVs. They'll be around for a long longer, 3D TVs are too expensive to take completely over.

What makes a TV 3D, is a screen which can refresh very quickly. All good TV's have screens with refrech rates high enough to handle 3D. Additionally though, you need glasses, and a transmitter, or secondary layer that poloarises the screen in the correct way.

It's only amatter of time before all TV's have such refresh rates, and 3D will become standard. Active 3D is a technically better system, but costs more than passive, so it's hard to know which will prevail in the long run.
