A thread to post fancys for the handicaps that might be lined up for a big pot

I'll get the ball rolling I think SIMENON is a being lined up for something in the spring no other reason they would continue to run it on horrible ground it hates through the winter

Another one I think will be laid out for the festival is KID CASSIDY for one of the handicap chases probably the Johnny Henderson

SAILORS WARN is another I think will be set out for one of the handicaps ran well last year having a quiet one this season so far

THOMAS EDISON is another that could be lined up was looked after last time at Ascot can see it being a different proposition once its put into a race

Another one is SAM WINNER off a nice handicap mark of 140 reckon he has at least 10lb in hand on that mark once his mark isnt blown before the festival.

Cantlow. Given 2 sighters over fences (received particularly tended handling when 2nd to Sire De Grugy 2nd time out). Then won at Plumpton to set up a potential 60k bonus if he wins at the festival

The old "Jewson" or the William Hill I'd guess.

Our Vinnie, the Byrne's stable always like their gambles. He impressed me when he ran in Cheltenham, seemed to relish the uphill finish.

I agree with Sailors Warn, hasn't reached his potential yet and could be one to watch out for.

    Nicky Henderson's SNAKE EYES

3rd in a valuable bumper won by Clondaw Kaempfer back in April, then turned over at odds of 1/5 in a novice hurdle when idling after hitting the front way too soon (25L clear of the 3rd), if given another couple of easy races before March could slip in off a handy mark in the Coral Cup or the conditional jockeys' race.

Divers absolute plot job I reckon. If he goes for the Byrne Group Plate again, he will get in off a lightish weight if he keeps dropping in the handicap. About 130 would put him just over 10 stone and he won the Novice handicap off 132 in 2010.

Kid Cassidy......Nicky The Needle was even getting in his excuses for his no show at the Open Meeting before the race!!!!

Total plot horse for the Grand Annual!

He's been in my notebook since Plumpton. Thought he won with a stone in hand there.

Tour D'argent, hasn't been seen since October when about to beat there's no panic until falling..either that or he's injured

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Not an obvious one nor one that may be massively well handicapped but I'm betting Notus De La Tour may be put away for the festival now

Well backed in last year's Byrne Group race & also at Cheltenham's December meeting he failed to complete both times.

    Sounds promising :D
Given how on fire pipe is at the moment it's like he could win nearly every handicap he had an entry..he's surely winning the championship based on wins as opposed to winnings this year?

Forgotton the most obvious plot horse of all, Son of Flicka, almost laughable they way hell be out the back all year and suddenly pop up at the festival in great form to run for his life. Doubt hell be 40/1 this year tough...

I have Rossom to thank for that one, I still laugh when I see or hear the name of the horse. I paid for a holiday of a lifetime out of it for myself & the missus. The horse & price was put up here the night before the race & I just loved the profile of the horse so I had a thump off it each way & then had a nice bet on Belvano out of the winnings. I backed 4 horses in Cheltenham last year, 2 "bankers" which were both beaten & then I backed to 40/1 shots which both won. Belvano was 41/1 on Betfair about 10 minutes before the race despite being only returning 18/1 I think. Without a doubt the best Cheltenham I've ever had. Cheers Rossom

Ah here Ted...you really crying over after-timing when Motivator's clearly just re-thanking Rossom for his successful tips shared on this site last March? I assume Rossoms tips were here to see if you wanted to follow them too! Some people just hate others happiness...only in Ireland eh!

Hopefully Motivator and Rossom will be as successful this year and I can follow suit! :P

Its a thread for plot horses for this seasons cheltenham festival not remembering last years winners im sure we can all remember big winners we backed but please refrain from gloating about holidays of a lifetime ect because nobody cares after-timing is vile.

Simonsig, he has won two races well when being held back and I think he will win a big race at the festival :D

Get me out of here was campaigned appallingly the year he was chinned on the line at 14/1 by Ruby and Mullins.

    A wind operation, apparently.

Whatever race Plan A goes in I'll be backing

Was delighted to see him get beaten that day. Still sore after his run at Ascot.

It takes a lot of money to move a horse from 16/1 in to an SP of 7/1 at the festival

Agree with this since he gave it an easy ride in sligo first time over fences I knew it was a plot job he will be well handicapped soon and jp will get back the 100 grand he paid for him when he wins.

Cantlow running today at Taunton, would have to lay it at 1/2

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Not a plot horse but jumping problems may result in sights being lowered & possibly a lenient handicap mark for Mount Benbulben

It was a much improved jumping round at Naas yesterday & will give connections some encouragement

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Interestingly the RP states that if he goes so another lb he'll be ruled out if the novices' handicap

On the other hand the step up in trip might help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭carmanard

Job done by Cantlow, I can't help feeling that Webber has loftier goals for the horse other than sneaking into a handicap. I don't think the old William Hill would suit him as I don't think he'd get home up the hill over 3 miles (ran a shocker there in November 11 before a great run at Sandown where I was on him e/w at 12/1 and he travelled like a dream up to the last hurdle at the festival last year before getting nailed), perhaps a run in the Jewson???? RSA would be pie in the sky and I'm not going to make a complete fool of myself by suggesting the Arkle :) Two and a half miles on decent ground should be right up his street, I'd have no qualms about backing him for a place in one of the Graded novice chases at the festival....

Cantlow blows my theory out of the water that he's being plotted for a handicap

Strange thing is he blatantly didn't try a yard 2nd time out behind Sire De Grugy

Poorly judged ride by AP maybe?

I like this horde, he's miles ahead of the handicapper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 eddiezero

Your theory is spot on Colonel, but winning today will make next to no difference to his OR.

Handicap mark was achieved after his first 2 starts, raised 2lbs for his Plumpton success was arguably harsh. Although don't think many will sympathise for connections :D

3mile handicap chase on the first day is the logical target given his affinity for an ease in the ground. Also likely to get a nice racing weight rather than having to shoulder top weight in the novices handicap (although may not be eligble for it if the handicapper believes todays win warrants a rise).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

I feel Cantlow could be in a bid of a no-man's land now, too high a mark for handicaps but not a high enough standard for grade 1 races.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,132 ✭✭✭SRFC

Surely they could run him in a bog and get him down the handicap before cheltenham?

Thought Son of Flicka ran a great prep for Cheltenham today in the Lanzarote no doubt he'll improve them 100 lengths in March!

It's a bit of a joke, he was tailed off at Sandown too

Ready made excuse, the soft ground.

If I was the handicapper I wouldn't go near him.

That said I still think he'd be doing well to win at Cheltenham no matter how much he's planned for the race, there will be plenty others primed for it

They'll all be at it soon :-) how do you even spot this sh*t for other unknown laid out horses without forensically going through each video replay of every horse in the race!

They were taking about cant low as a plot horse for a festival chase on ATR this morning. They said it was like they dropped him in trip to underperform but went on and won both :-)

Its actually a disgrace what they've done with Son Of Flicka for the past two years (and this is coming from someone who was on at 40s last year). For the past 2 years they've only let the hand brake off once which was his win in the Coral Cup last year and its as clear as day he's being lined up for another punt at the Festival. Don't see any reason why it wouldn't be the Coral Cup again this year and I'll be sticking on a little bit every week until the festival. He's best priced 33/1 for it but I've got onto every bookie to see if I can get a bigger price for him

He is in the market for the Pertemps too, hard to second guess them all. You could back him up to €40 with VC bet (I think that is the max per horse) for the Pertemps at 16/1 and take the 33s with other bookies for the Coral.

It was a mark of 155 last year but no clue in terms of horses. I'd say he'll have in and around a weight of 10-10 this year (if he goes for the race).

Tour D'argent is running on THE FLAT in lingfield tomorrow! It's a plot if I've ever seen one. Anyone speculate what race he might go into at the festival? I know he's fallen twice over fences but at this stage I'm sure they've had Yogi in doing his magic behind the scenes

Johnny Henderson chase last race on the Friday I would say..he would be bottom of the weights given he hasn't completed a chase race yet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

Kayf Aramis if he squeezes in at the bottom of the weights in the Pertemps
won it back in '09 and was travelling very well off 138 last year til he clattered the 2nd last.
been getting his mark down to 125 by running on unsuitable bottomless ground, would be worth a punt off that kind of mark

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Colour Squadron for the old jewson. Was never put in the race last time.

He won't get in. Bottom weight last year was a mark of 137. Would be interesting if he scraped into another race though.
