got a very nice present of musto br1 salopette's.... my musto mpx's race are very tired now and badly need replacing.
just trying to assess if the br1's are as adequate as the sales talk would suggest and keep the yo yo's in my wallet as there is quite a price difference!
Must BR1 trousers offer yachtsman affordable lightweight protection for all sorts of sailing activities. Primarily they're suited to sailors performing inshore, racing and cruising...
....And being so lightweight they're extremely popular amongst day sailors
Avid enthusiast mostly keel boat day racing on 30+ft April to Oct and most weekend races and summer evening racing when I can.
will do events like Cork Week, Sovereign's, Volvo Regatta, IRCA Nats etc.

Used to do a lot of bow in the past but the last few years have been trimming upwind and down wind and will jump into a problem situation to help where every it can occur around the cans racing.

Will do one or 2 costal deliveries a season to and from events

Will sail other classes whenever the opportunity arises like 1720's, sb3's etc.

should I chance the Br1's or bit the bullet and shell out for the mpx??????

I've had this exact dilemma for the last few years! I've worn out the arse of BR1s fairly easily (stop sniggering down the back) and had to patch it up with spinny repair tape (VERY effective repair by the way). I invested in BR2s (offshore quality) as I started doing offshore stuff and they're most definitely heavier duty and more robust as well as being higher in the chest for more insulation.

However for day to day stuff - I would do a similar amount and type of sailing to you - I got two pairs of cheap-as-chips Lidl/Aldi legs which did the job just fine. Unfortunately I lost one of them, and the other is nowhere near waterproof any more. The plan is - if they reappear, which they didn't this year - to buy more and use them for the short regular racing, and treat them as pretty much disposable year on year. Then my good, heavier gear I use for deliveries/offshore races when quality of gear is a LOT more important.

I've never had MPX stuff but a lot of my pals do and it seems to be well worth it. But after years of wearing gear out on round-the-cans stuff in Dublin Bay I've come up with the above approach.

    ETA - lovely present!!
