It is now officially 2013 somewhere in the middle of the pacific so here is the new 1000 mile challenge spreadsheet link:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApYKSUtVQ4OodDdkQjJJcERRbGk1dmw3blI2anZoMHc

Same as last year we are using Google Docs again, just click on the link above and enter your boardsie name in column A and then how far your total miles are for the year in column C, or if you count in kilometres enter that in column D. If you want you can also enter you age/ gender category in column B.

Do not edit any other columns, except for the completion date when you have done your 1000miles. People who had access to the locked sheet should already be setup with access to the same sheet again, anyone that wants access to that then you'll need to PM me your Google email address so that I can enable access.

I'd encourage anyone who has a google account to request access to the locked sheet. It's no extra work to record your runs there and you don't have to worry about ****wits messing with your entry. And the fewer people there are on the unlocked sheet, the less likely it is that the ****wits will mess with it.

You seem to have removed my overall access so I can't fix all the broken formula's which are referencing 2012 :)

    Doh!

... and in my trying to fix your access I seem to have locked myself out of it now and made you the owner and I can't edit it now ...

    Double Doh!

I'm off to run a 5km in the middle of Wales now anyway so will have to leave the fixing to you for the moment... I'll be back tomorrow with a hangover.

I dropped out of this last year after my details had disappeared for the fourth time. What type of google account do you need to be more secure (need easy steps please - not very tech savvy ) Thanks C

I'll catch up with adding people to the sheet later today, just off to run a 10km race now with a mildly sore head from last night.

Moved you down a notch ;)

Did my longest run* of the year :) with a lovely 21k in the sunshine along the coast

I won't be anywhere near the top for long as my legs don't hold together well doing for than 30mpw so have transferred some training time to bicycle.

*May actually hold true for much of the year

Just sent robinph a pm, would love to give this a go this year, would be happy to break the 1000 mark!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Did a 10km race yesterday and close to 2 minutes faster than when I last did that race a couple of years ago. I really should have stopped after the first mile though as I think I have done myself an injury already, just hoping that the legs are working OK before I go skiing this weekend, but not looking good. :(

Everyone that has pm'ed me so far should now be added and have access to the locked sheet.

Note that once you have access to edit the locked sheet you do not need to enter mileage in the "Enter Distance Here" sheet. I'll tidy up the duplicates if I notice them.

Get your requests for access to me in the next couple of days as my access will be limited during next week and I may not be able to add new people so easily to Google Docs.

Will pm you my gmail robinph.

    I'm in too.

Only discovered running last July and the 1000 mile Challenge much later.

I managed 511 from July-Dec '12 with DCM Novices, plan to replicate that run rate for a whole of 2013 and meet or exceed the target.

I've just PM's Robinph so will log my 1st 5 miles from NYD when I can!

You have access to edit the page OK in the Google settings. It could be that the page just needs refreshing so try reloading from the link on the first page again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭rom

Someone broke something :). Cant fix it on my phone.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

    Fixed.

That is just a side effect from people deleting duplicate lines in one sheet, and the other sheet the data gets copied to gets all confused so you need to recreate the link between the two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,768 ✭✭✭eyeball kid

Signed up again for this year. Sent in my gmail details to robinph and he's already added me to the Locked sheet. Thanks for that.
It was pretty annoying last year with the dumbasses who kept deleting everyone.

1000 miles might be a bit too much for me. Around 250 miles in 2010 and around 335 last year. If I break 500 this year I'll be happy.

Just noticed this now. I haven't entered my name in the locked sheet yet so i'll just wait for my next update and just enter it in the locked sheet. I take it this will update the other sheets?? PS Could you lock row 1 in locked sheet please for the people scrolling down?? Many thanks :)

Yep, just enter details in the locked sheet from now on. You can delete your line from the "Enter details here" sheet, that will cause a minor error with the positions sheet but me or rom will tidy that up when we spot it.

I've fixed the headings row in the locked sheet now.

if you use $ in you cell references then this wont happen. No idea what the issue is but I presume this is what happening.

Say you are copying A1:D5 and then you end up deleting row 5 you get an error. If you use $A$1:$D$5 then the formula won't try to fix itself to A1:D4 .

If this is not the problem send me a pm or email as there is a solution to this.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

That sounds like it would fix the issue, but how do you copy the formula when you've got the $'s in it but with still having the references change? Or do I need to manually edit each one?

=unique(array) - this should root out some of the duplicates.

now say your formula is col D (time) divided by col Cdistance) to get col E (pace)

in E2 (presuming you got a header) you would have =D2/C2
Now wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to drag the formula down the whole way for all the cells in col E ?

Well you can with putting in cell E2
    =arrayFormula(D2:d/C2:C)

The same goes for copying stuff from one table to another.

Prob make a copy of the main document and play around with it until you get it right.

Sheet 1 is open access Sheet 3 only for signed into a goolge account that have PM'd OP (basically to prevent people changing their mileage without being logged in.

Sorted my entry in the locked sheet, 32 miles up so far...aiming for 2,000 miles this year as I finished with 1,500 in 2012 up from 980 in 2011 :)

To those that have sent me pm's in the last couple of days, I'm not ignoring you, just I'm on mobile access for the rest of the week so unlikely I'll be able to update the access list. Bear with me and I'll get it sorted...
