Boards tips and tricks

    What boards tricks do you use on the site?

    If you click the little arrow beside a quote, it brings you back to the original post that the person has quoted
    pic

    If you click the arrow beside a thread, it brings you to your first unread post in that thread (instead of scrolling through to find where you were the last time you read the thread)
    pic - red box

    If you click the arrow beside the latest poster, it brings you to the last post in the threadpic - blue box

    That all sounds really obvious but a surprising amount of people don't know about it!

    Any more tips and tricks?

    I run a shady events management company that does gigs and what have you, hire bouncers that won't hesitate to kick someone to death. Then when someone speaks ill of my company I sue boards.ie and get rich!

    click on the number of replies to a thread to get a list of the posters in that thread and how many postes they have made in the thread ('ctrl+f' to find a specific poster), click on the number to get all their posts in that thread

    if you quote all the images in YLYL and repost them all in one giant post you're not only guaranteed thanks, but the images will be easy to find when you want to relive the magic again and again.

    Its not really a boards trick - more a chrome trick - install this add-on ...then if you see a picture link in AH, by just moving your mouse over it, the image pops up in front of you.
    (This includes moving gifs)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

    The F5 button refreshes the page.

    (Not everyone may know that. I learnt it from boards a few years ago. )

    The X button in the top right hand corner allows you to close boards and get a good night's sleep

    You can also get a similar add-on for browsers that aren't like a wearing a used condom.

    Er...not quite sure I follow the analogy there Adyx. Other than that would be terrible? Are you saying Chrome is terrible? Please explain yourself!

    If you want to find all of your favourite posts, just click on my username, then on "Find more posts by The King of Moo." You'll find all of them there in a handy list.

    Ill sound like a creep now, but sometimes I do that and click on most thanked to find their funniest ones.

    Or photos they've put up in cool vids....

    That's exactly what I'm saying! I have no issue with Google trying their best to find out everything and anything about my browsing habits but I'll be damned if I'll make it easy for them! :P Try Iron instead.

    If you did that with me you'd find only my most cynical and laziest (yet most successful) attempts at thanks-whoring.

    1. Find an opening post with a outrageous argument/strong pun potential.
    2. Within the first five replies, post a short, populist reply to said argument/make obvious pun.
    3. Gain internet kudos.
    4. Profit???

    Didn't know this. I see the original post ends up under that annoying boards banner that takes up 1 1/2 inches of my screen.
    Is there any trick to get rid of this banner? I used the old skin until yesterday, but they ****ed up the drop down menus and are very tardy fixing this issue.

    I've never done it personally(:o:D) but I will take these sage words on-boards.

    If a ban falls in a forest, and nobody hears it, does it still make a ban sound?

    Click (left click, not right click) on the name to the left of the post.
    Then just click "add annoying fecker user to your ignore list".

    Pretty sure you get a notification when a mod takes action against you.

    I don't have any arrows beside my thread titles. How can I get them?
    I really really want them!

    Not with all deleted posts though. A post of mine vanished once... turns out (according to KeithM89 when he was a mod):

    (we dont usually pm people when we delete posts but just in case you were wondering)

    Here another few that sometimes is useful on boards.ie (as well as other sites):

    Chrome Currency Converter - automatically changes Sterling etc on a site to Euro's etc
    * https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-currency-converter/anbfhidldjknonaihbalghlebaijealk

    Stop Youtube Autoplay - if you've ever opened a bunch of videos in the background, you'll know how annoying it is when they all start automatically playing.
    With this extension, videos only start playing when you actually select its tab. You'll never have to worry about videos autoplaying in the background.

    * https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stop-autoplay-in-backgrou/lkfmcciflnlkdheadiffkhjcmalocece

    Best one of the lot for me: Text URL Linker - turns any "http:\www.example.com" into an automatic clickable link.

    * https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/text-url-linker/aegfbpchoheaflicfmggkmlmcccpjpgd

    * Alternative version for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/linkification/

    I left my Halo in lillies Bordello. Now I only have turds to polish.

    My top AH/Boards tip is "be polite". Even if you want to call someone a cucking funt, do it politely, otherwise, you get a swift holiday. Pressing the "off" button on the computer will usually prevent you posting somthing you regret. Usually.
