    Hey.

I've had a change of lifestyle over the last year or so. Pretty much dropped starchy carbs and I do 2-3 circuit sessions per week. I usually bump the protein after with a diet whey supplements. Ive dropped 13kgs but I think I've plateaued a bit.

Recently I've been travelling a bit and missed a few sessions. I've noticed that my first session back, I have heaps of strength and I'm guessing that's down to a few days of cheating.

So, does this mean I'm hindering my progress because I'm avoiding starch?

It depends on what exactly you mean by these 2-3 circuit sessions per week.

If its heavy resistance circuits or supersets or equivalent, considering you have at least 48 hours between sessions, that's more than enough time to recover and replete glycogen without actually consuming many carbs.

However, if the sessions are extremely glycogen-demanding, for example a Crossfit style WOD, you probably are going to feel some benefit from getting in some more carbs. Although, again considering its only a workout every other day, there is no real need for a huge carb intake. Perhaps try 150-160g/day and increase it incrementally until you feel your performance returning to where you think it should be.

Usually when I come back from two weeks holidays my strength has increased and cardio goes down a bit. I but it down to the body going to repair\regeneration mode with the rest.

    Experiment with increasing the carbs?

Start adding sweet potato to meals and see how you go. Just don't introduce too much carbs at once.
