Black Monday - NFL Coaching Changes

Well, Black Monday is almost upon us. The day where some organisations will make huge changes. What changes do you foresee happening? What do you want to see, etc?

I think the Browns, Bills, Jaguars, Titans, Chargers, Eagles, Panthers and Chiefs will be letting head coaches and in some cases GM's go.

I think the Jets will stick with Rex Ryan but it's probably a coin toss at this stage trying to guess what will happen there.

In a move that I don't think should happen I have a feeling the Cardinals will be letting Whisenhunt go too.

It's going to be a hugely interesting offseason with so many changes likely to take place.

Add the Raiders and possibly the Bears (if we don't make the playoffs), and it should indeed be interesting...

I'd be very surprised if Raiders let go of our Head coach.

You mean Da Bears? Well, they're not a sacking team as we know. Key injuries this year haven't helped as well as the fact the Bears aren't the greatest when it comes to the draft. It's only our D that's keeping us in the hunt. The O line is crap, Cutler too inconsistent, and Forte's banged up. But they're beginning to whisper in the Windy City. And I'm beginning to fear for Lovie, who is a great coach and I have the utmost respect for. I personally want him to stay.

But by his own measurements of success, he hasn't delivered. He said his aims were beating the Packers and winning the Superbowl. These aims seem further away now than two years ago. His offense is ultimately something he needs to take responsibility for. Tice hasn't got them firing. That said, Cutler wants some stability, and argues that part of the problem for the offense is the constant changing around of its managing personnel. Cutler may be inconsistent, but he's a good tough qb, and along with Marshall and Alshon, they have the ability to make a competitive offense, if they draft well. Besides, there's no point blaming Cutler when the playcalls are to blame, and the O-line leaves him under pressure. More to the point, there is not a hope in hell that the Bears will be getting a better qb any time soon, and indeed I wouldn't be surprised if Cutler decided to go elsewhere. The arrival of Marshall is probably the only reason he wasn't gone before now.

Anyway the draft isn't a matter for Smith, but the current state of the offense is. They need an offensively minded HC. Looks like there will be a lot of jobs opening up and you'd wonder how attractive the Bears are to a top candidate right now.

I think Ron Rivera will be given another chance in Carolina.

Reading that article though and the thoughts of Chip Kelly coaching the team is mouth watering ! :)

Dennis Allen giving Terrell Pryor the starting job is just a signal that he's given up on the Raiders imo.

I think the Bears will make the playoffs and Smith will be kept. Don't think Rivera/Allen will get the chop. I reckon Reid, Whisenhunt, Gailey, Shurmur, Munchak, Turner and Crennel are on the way out.

No I thought he would be coming to SD too but seems not.

Im thinking Pagano, it has been confirmed by a beat writer we are interested in Arians from Colts.

I be curious to know if he would be an OC here in San Diego since he is from here. Do feel he abandons the run just like Norv.

In 2 minds about Coughlin myself, think he will be there next year though, but if you got rid, who would you get in? Maybe a case of better the devil you know

Tough, hard nosed coach who takes no nonsense but improves average players?

    Mike Zimmer!

Rob Ryan who despite never having a great defence yet is still on the screen during games more than every other co-ordinator combined, is he safe? Maybe Jerry will take over that role as well.

I'd only fire Coughlin because he won't get rid of Fewell or Killdrive

He won the Super Bowl last year.... And 4 years before that. 2 in 5 years and he should be sacked?

Deserves a shot somewhere. Wouldn't say no to Gruden if he wanted back into coaching either.

    Yea pretty much

His record in past 4 years is 9-7, 9-7, 10-6 and 8-8. Only made playoffs once in those 4 years. He would have been gone last year if he didn't make the playoffs.

You make it sound like he only made the play offs and that was it. He won it, again. 2 times in 5. When was the last time Belichik won one?

As expected, just officially announced now in Philly.
Eagles announced that Andy Reid is out as head coach, via the team's official website
    JayGlazer wrote:
Jags HC Mike Mularkey in team mtg just told players as far as he knows he's still head coach after talking w owner Thurs and today

While Mularkey says he's given indication he is still coach, he probably still has to see how new GM's role plays into it

Coughlin will still be in NY and will be given the chance to win a Superbowl at home in NY City. He may be fired if he can't change the coaching staff.

Don't be fickle. He's a HOF coach. Get rid of Killdrive and sort a few things out and you'll be fine

I'd really like to see Reid take a year off to be honest. I think he'd really benefit from it, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he jumped straight back in.

I totally agree with you there, I also think he needs to take a year off. But as you said, he might not. I think it really is commendable that he stuck out the season at all, especially after all he's been through.

As a Black Monday goes, this is pretty bad by any standards. Jaysus i hope Lovie Smith stays away from the AFC West, Kansas or San Diego would become a serious headache.

PhiladelphiaEagles.com is showing footage of reid and lurie talking to staff. So Reid is there obviously.

Bears have requested permission to interview Mike McCoy from the Broncos. Thoughts on him?

Haven't watched an awful lot of the Broncos this year, but I know he has Mannaing at QB so..

He's very versatile is how i'd describe him. Managed to run a gimmick offence with Tebow one year and the Manning offence this year. Ranked two in points scored after this season. Wouldn't be the best of the best as offensive co-ordinators go, he'll have the odd playcall that'll do your head in a la Martz but the fella knows his **** and is good head coach material.

Whoever's looking for coaches: Take McCoy if yee must, we'd rather have him but would understand. On the other hand, **** off away from Jack Del Rio, he's ours.

I notice that Kansas are expected to retain Scott Pioli... big mistake if they do it.

Ken Wishenhunt and GM Graves both get the bullet in Arizona. This truly is a crazy day. It was clear that QB injuries cost the Cardinals big.
