I'm a bit of a germ phobe, especially at this time of year. I carry around a n antibacterial liquid soap, and use it immediately after shaking hands, or interacting with others. But it is a little embarrassing to do so after shakingv hand with somebody. Any clever techniques out there for staying germ free, while not offending anybody?

    Don't shake hands

Ring a bell in people's face and yell "UNCLEAN" at them?!

...or wait until their back is turned and use it :)

    Bow instead of shaking hands.

I would suggest you make an excuse not to shale their hand. Claim to have a cold and excuse yourself in THEIR best interests.
If I shook your hand and you subsequently used antibacterial gel I don't know which would hurt more - my fist or your face

I suppose if you are outside, you could just make sure you are wearing gloves when shaking hands. And inside, just try and shake hands with everyone around the one time, and then use the antibacterial gel discreetly, e.g. go to the toilet or pretend to get something from another room.

I presume you have a really small bottle of antibacterial gel rather than a big bottle? :)

Your current personality is not compatible with Germ Phobia. And will have to change it.

Adopt the persona of Jack Nicholson in As Good as it Gets. Take satisfaction from blatantly washing your hands after interacting with people. Flaunt it. Make sure they know you are superior to them. :D

What?! Au contre, OP, that's legendary personal administration! I'd say go for it. If you can keep the gel handy, then why not use it? Your doctor or nurse would do it if she shook your hand, so it's good enough for you to.
