Where to buy coconut oil?

I have heard alot about coconut oil. I saw a couple of different brands in Holland & Barrett but rather than an oil they all seem to be of a solid consistency and in jars. Am I wrong in thinking that it was actually an oil, to put a couple of spoonfuls in your shake or your yogurt or knock it back etc.

I saw on another thread that the Biona Virgin Coconut Oil seemed like a brand everyone used but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Is all the raving about this stuff true, any dedicated users of it out there?

Indian supermarkets usually sell the stuff.

It usually solidifies but quickly turns to liquid if you hold it under warm water.

superquinn and dunnes have it, 5.99 for 500ml of cocowel extra virgin

and yeah it's solid at room temp. I have some I use just as a moisturiser and I leave it sitting in a bit of warm water while I'm in the shower. when I'm eating it or using it as frying oil I just lash into it with a fork

Eurasia shop in fonthill near liffey valley about €1.50 a jar. Ktc brand has no taste of coconut, which makes it ideal for cooking.

Coconut oil has a melting point of 24°C, so it is solid in the winter and liquid in the summer. I put the jar in the microwave for a minute (with the lid off of course) before use.

You can get the Biona extra virgin coconut oil in most health stores. This is the type that most coconut experts recommend. It is quite expensive. I got a 200g jar for six euro something.

A cheaper option is the KTC brand which you can get in specialist shops and some conventional supermarkets. I got a 500g jar for three euro something in Fallon & Byrne in Dublin. Unlike the extra virgin oil, it is refined and does not have a coconut smell which makes it good for cooking.
