    Pandorama 12/1

Popped into a hotel in Kinnegad Saturday turned out the hotel was owned by Bagnall, Pandorama's owner. He was quite convinced he'd have a good chance on the 28th and though the then price of 14/1 was very generous and worth an e/w bet

Just thought I'd pass it on!

Used to run in Bagnall's colours before his injury but you're right, he's listed in Meade's colours now

I backed him either way. 2 time c&d winner. 22's is a good value bet for me.

If he's back to the form he was at before his injury and SDC and flemenstar form turns out to be below expectations he has a great chance..big IF's but can't ignore the price had some myself..
What do people make of weapons amnesty? Is he out for a spin?

Is there a reason why Zaidpour isn't much shorter? Beat both VLV and Monksland last time out on his first time out this season, on similarish ground. Has won over 3m before.

I don't see any reason why Monksland or VLV should turn the form around.

Trained by N Meade and owned by R J Bagnall
Horse likes running over 3m, Hope it is not too high in the ratings after the lay off.

Monksland seemed to finish the Hatton's like a stayer, so Meade reckons a step up in trip to 3m will help. Monksland is a classy horse and last day in Fairyhouse it was bottomless, tomorrow will be soft, rain due with wind so might not be to soft.
Also Zaidpour has won most of his races righthanded and might not be as good around leopy... one is 5/4 and the other 4/1, about right... though I would be slow to jump on at 5/4.

PP went 11/2 Monksland after racing today, so took some of that.. should be a good race..

Trixie - Monksland, Dedigout & SDC - step up in trip should help all 3

At the risk of sounding like Dr Martin Luther Buck, I had a dream the other night where Pandorama won the Lexus, it was vivid enough that he and Flemenstar swung round the bend and Pand was running all over Flem.

I am nailed to Flem but I have only had three racing dreams albeit where convinced on backing the three but all won, Zarkava, STS and Denman. No such thoughts on Pand or might be sub conscious due to ante post on go native going awry and same trainer and owner.

    Thought I would share anyway.

Sorry as far as I know the horse changed hands a week ago.

Definitely monksland is a younger horse with alot more room to grow into himself I would suspect. His breeding suggests the 3m could bring the best of him and if anything I think the extra distance will. He was certainly running on very strongly the last day and you would expect him to seriously come on for the run. Given the company he was in Im hoping monksland could be a superstar we'll see more of after tomorrow..world hurdle watch this space.

As you say should have no bother beating VlV again and Monksland may or may not be suited by the step up to 3 miles.

It is surprising 13/8 was available earlier and there's often money on shots with many questions to answer that Zaidpour doesn't :)

I'd be somewhat afraid of a big run from So Young over 3m though.

Anyone know much about Foxrock in the first tomorrow. First race under rules and is a half brother to Tidal bay, Flemenstar and Pandorama?

Heading there tomorrow and have made Tidal Bay and Sizing Italy in the 1:55 my big bets. Anyone else got anything, Rossom?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

The owner of Pandorama was hit fairly hard by the recession like a lot of Meade's owners. Some of his businesses went into receivership a while back. I don't think Meade was too happy with him anyway after he insisted that the horse ran in the Gold Cup. Meade wanted to withdraw him after walking the track knowing that he'd get jarred on that quick ground but the owner wanted to run and the rest is history.

I backed Zaidpour in the Hattons Grace but I wouldn't be wading in at a short price tomorrow. 3 miles should not be a problem as he showed at Gowran last year in the Galmoy but he's 0 from 2 at Leopardstown.

Foxrock isn't a half-brother to those horses. Simply bred by the same sire in Flemensfirth. He's out of a Roselier mare so should handle the ground and was withdrawn from a listed novice at Punchestown earlier on in the month so he must be fairly highly thought of. The market will be very informative to his chances as it nearly always is in these maiden hurdles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭qc3

Meade said of Pandorama: "He's in good form and we are hoping for the best.

"It might be a bit much to ask him to come back and win a race like this after all that time off, but he's in good shape and we can't do any more with him at home. He'll probably come on for the run, but hopefully he'll run a good race."

Heading out to Leopardstown tomorrow so going through the card at the moment. Picks for the big races as follows:

Topaz Novice Chase: Going to side with Tofino Bay here. None of the market leaders really do the business for me. Back in Focus looks like he might not like 3miles and I cant have him at the prices. Dedigout was top notch over hurdles but I'm not sure about 3m and I'm reluctant to back Tony Martin trained horses in these sort of races. I haven't seen enough of Aupcharlie to have any confidence in him and surely will do well to win this having had only one run over fences. Lyreen Legend doesn't look like he can improve enough to win this. Tofino Bay was far from classy over hurdles but impressed me to rally through the mud and take the Troytown in Navan last month. Trip looks perfect and he'll handle the ground, Barry Geraghty on board cant harm his chances either.

Christmas Hurdle: Zaidpour looks tough to beat here. Holds Monksland and Voler la Vedette on the Hatton's Grace form and I can't see the step up in trip being a bother to him. He ruined a good day for me as a novice when he was turned over at evens at this track in the Deloitte Novice hurdle in 2011 but I'm willing to forgive him and ignore his previous poor runs at Leapordstown as he's surely the horse with the most ability in the race. To me, he looks like he should be odds on here and I'll be lumping my money on accordingly. Few quid on Weapon's Amnesty aswell for old time's sake. You'd imagine he wasn't trained with this in mind though.

Lexus Chase: I'm firmly in the Flemenstar camp here. If there's a better jumper in the field tomorrow then I'll buy ye all a few Jaeger bombs in Club 92 afterwards. I suspect there won't be though and hopefully Flemenstar picks up lengths at every obstacle. If he doesn't stay, then so be it but at the moment, there's nothing to say he won't except idle speculation. Of the rest, I've always thought Sir Des Champs looked best over 2m4f but he'll definitely appreciate going back left handed. He has to prove himself before I'm willing to back him though. Tidal Bay is an odd character and I suspect hauling top weight in the Hennessy will have left its mark and he may just bottom out.
I've fruitlessy backed Pandorama many times before so I'll stick quid a few on him tomorrow aswell. If he comes back with his old ability, he's definitely in with a shout. Hidden Cyclone doesn't look a good enough jumper to win this and the real First Lieutenant won't show up until March in the Cotswolds.

Will do the maidens, handicaps and bumper later but unlikely to take a price on these til I get to the course so I wont bother with write ups, the betting usually tells you all you need to know about those races. Here's hoping this time tomorrow we'll all be looking towards the Gold Cup with an Irish hope with a real chance.

Bingo. After winning the Neptune and running a blinder in the RSA last year there are still people suggesting on here he is going to be a handicapper. I'm still laughing at that one. A front running ride in the Ryanair looks just up his street after his Hennessy effort imo.

I like Flemenstar and was a big advocate of him last year when he was still relatively unexposed. He seems to have played his cards to me though, he may win tomorrow but he won't be getting anywhere near a Gold Cup.

Providing he doesn't run a brutal race tomorrow I would still be pretty confident that Sir Des Champs will be a massive player in the Gold Cup. Looks the only one in this field good enough to progress enough to be a Gold Cup winner. Could do with him being turned over tomorrow to get a price.

I would be disappointed if Pandy didn't run a good race, probably will feel the effects of his layoff at some stage but not one for March either in reality.

tidal bay only beat pandorama by a short head in the gold cup, yet he's 9/2, while pandorama's still 25's. Think i'll have a small bet on pandorama.

Pandoramas long lay off is factored into that price, Also Tidal bay is running some of his best races since joining Nicholls

Monksland came from the car park to win easy. Didnt seem to be going on the ground at all. RTE said he hit 80/1 BIR. Had been backed in to 11/4 from 5's.

Flemenstar for me, See no reason why he shouldn't get the 3m.

Tidal bay keeps screaming at me but can't shake the fact that lugging top weight around Newbury in the Hennessy would leave it's mark on an 11yo.
