    Hey all,

I'm looking to head back into the gym in the new year, but I have a weakness/muscle imbalance in my quad which is causing a little trouble...I've been giving a number of exercises to rectify this weakness/muscle imbalance...

But I'm looking for an alternative to the squat, I've seen an alternative used before.

1- Start in a seated position with weights held at head height over shoulders.
    2- Stand Up
    3- Seat Back down.

Don't know if this is a know alternative...

    Cheers in advance

By a physio? And if so, have you been given a specific programme of rehab?

I'm not trying to be smart but that's a squat, or at least a squat variation. If you can give us a bit more detail on what you're trying to achieve people can offer you some better advice...depending of course on how you answer the first question.

Sit to stand is a shallow squat and a REALLY functional movement! Its incredibly important to everyday living! To progress it sit/squat to a lower bench/seat. You can use two dumbbells or a goblet style squat with just one weight.

Try doing single leg squats onto a bench or a few boxes to help even out the weakness. Also try the leg press machine during your rehab.

I was given a lot of different workouts but I have lost the one on the alternative squat(or seated squat)...

I have all the hip strengthening moves, single leg and half squats and hold moves and a few others...

I just opened the thread to see if my take on the seated/alternative squad was correct?

As someone with an ongoing hip issue. Without knowing exactly what the problem is no one can say for sure.

I can't single leg box squat on my left leg without my quad flaring up, but I can wise stance above parallel box squat becAuse knee flexion is minimized.

Physio's the best person to ask.

I've been to a physio and was given a rake of different exercise, I've just lost the one of my sheets with step by step instructions for each exercise, the physio called it "seated/alternative squat", as when I do a full squat my knee and quad act up, so I've been given a lot of things to build me up before I can start thinking of doing full range squats.

I'm able to do single leg seated squats, with no weights...

I'm just wondering how exactly you'd do two legged squat from seated position with weight
