As a Christian can I just say these people do not represent Christianity or the love of God.

    They are hate filled animals.

I firmly believe these people do what they do for money

    They're nothing but attention whores....

I would imagine they won't get a very christian reception if they try it.

There's only about 10 of them, can I just gather a tiny group, start protesting at unacceptable stuff and get international media attention?

Now, if only I can think something up that I need international media attention for. I'll put the kettle on, have a smoke and give this a ponder. I'll be back soon...

I genuinely believe the WBC have no beliefs at all and are literally just incredibly dedicated full time trolls who do it for the sole purpose of pissing people off.

They are evil people no doubt.

I wonder how they'd react if one of their family died and people turned up to the funeral with signs and shouted chants about how the deceased deserved to die and is going to hell, like they do

I think you may be accurate. They must make millions with networks filming their activities.

I was reading an article about a school of children who formed a human ring around a funeral to stop these sickos getting near it.

If the media ignored them they wouldn't be long going away.

I think they represent the love of god pretty well, in the biblical sense of it anyway.

Documentaries, website ads etc. Therouxs documentary on westboro shows the extent of their wealth.

I would choose for these people to die before anyone else on this planet.

These people are simply an extreme example of the mentality which finds it necessary to create a god which represents and justifies their own prejudices.

Religion: plentiful enough to propagate hatred, but rarely enough to promote love and acceptance.

    Be at peace,

That's the most ignorant thing I have heard today. I am not religious either and would never group religions into one. Grow up.

I don't understand what the fcuk is the big deal about gay people to these groups. I genuinely just don't get the fcuking deal. You couldn't pick me out of a line up and all I'm doing is getting off with like-minded people, so I hardly see how this effects anyone if you're not that way inclined.

    How wonderfully narrow minded.

Actually I disagree just a bit. I don't think it's appropriate to blame everyone who supports a religion. Buddhists for example support a religion, but it is a religion without a god figure and so there is no scope to claim representation of an almighty ruler, and hence no opportunity to speak on his behalf.

    Be at peace,

    Z

Here's another thing. Anonymous only give them more attention. What are they going to do ? Hack their website, sure they'll love that.

They're a bunch of cnuts. Turning up at funerals and doing what they do is childish and moronic. Each and every one of them should be psychologically assessed to see if there's brains in their heads at all.

right so god sent the shooter to the school but the soldiers funerals they protest at werent doing god's work.... hmmm

gotta love the upside down amerian flag that appears in the website's tab & cant believe they actually have a picket schedule:D

    'zactly.

They have a 'message' to spread. They do so in a manner that will attract a large amount of attention (negative or otherwise), and they get it.

So while they may be a lot of things, they're certainly not idiots (at least the people running it).

Its my opinion that saying things like that is regressive. Why not group all supporters of football together(Do they not all support different teams)? Why not group all people who vote in general elections together(Do they not vote for different parties and different ideas?)?

does this apply to the dozen or so in this country whose religion is jedi? i find it hard to group that one with any religion i know of

I agree, everyone who supports a football team, supports football in general.

Agreed. they alienate even homophobes and extreme right wing christians. they are just one mentally ill family and a few hangers on. unfortunately they are repeatedly indulged and empowered by the media every time they latch onto a tragedy like this.

Ah now, they do have a few goods ones. Not as funny as Landover Baptist, but they've got their gems.

    Overall though, pretty poor comedy.

    Eh... not quite.

The Westboro Baptist Church is simply a family that hold services. The head of the church is the father, and he has about three or four children involved in the church along with their families. His other children have nothing to do with him and they have been shunned by the family.

Fred Phelps is a former Constitutional Lawyer but was sanctioned by the Kansas State Bar Association. I believe that 13 of 14 of his children are also lawyers, and they are able to fund their activities by suing cities and states that try to restrict their constitutional rights. They were able to successfully argue all the way up to the Supreme Court and win, so they aren't stupid people. Just sick and twisted.

They also go to dead soldiers funerals with banners such as "Soldiers Die, God Laughs"

I think if they try that in the near future with emotions still raw in that town, they risk being lynched. And they would sure deserve it. I don't think the local sheriff would tolerate those hate mongers in his town.

Of course, Westboro denied the charges and taunted Anonymous as incompetent hackers. They claimed their website was protected by God. Big mistake. A few days later, while a Westboro spokeswoman was boasting about how the church foiled Anonymous on a radio talk show, an Anonymous spokesman called in and hacked the church’s website in real time on the air.

Do they not get punched in the face repeatedly for those sorts of antics? Surely there must be someone out there who would react to someone picketing the funeral of a loved one with a punch to the face.

I don't know why them having their website hacked is such a huge thing.
