Meant to post this yesterday but forgot!

Spotted my local Tesco selling big 640ml (almost twice the size of normal bottles) bottles of Tsingtao - a very tasty Chinese beer IMO - for just €1.49 each.

    Currently €2.99 each on Tesco.ie

Cleaned out the shelf in Tesco in Sligo (12 yesterday, and 4 today), but since there's no yellow sticker on it or indication that it's the 5 for €10, there's a good chance it'll go relatively un-noticed (til now)!

You mean the beer or OP for clearing the shelf? :D

As a Chinese I can tell you that this type of Tsingtao beer is only available outside of China and tastes much better.

There are some interesting offers in Tesco that you might miss as they are hidden within that "5 for €10" promotion. For example: 500ml bottles of Fursty Ferret and Wells Bombardier are currently €1.39 each. Adnams Lighthouse 500ml is also either €1.39 or €1.49

Add in the 4 cans of Pedigree turning up occasionally for €2 it's a very cheap Christmas for some pretty good beer. :)

The in store scanner scanned it at €2.99 in Tesco Ashbourne, so I put the couple of bottles I had back. Don't know if it was going to be any different at the till.

I was thinking the bottle looked different from the Tsingtao I drank in China.
The one I had was a blue label I think, but it was quite nice.

normal price in wilton, cork, still ok at 5 for €10 though

    Great find Basq!

Typically, I only see this post after leaving Tesco yesterday evening

As already stated, even at 5 for 10€ this is a good price anyway!

Love the bigger bottle sizes too, this is now comparable to the 660ml bottles of Italian beer 'Rossini' that Aldi do at 1.65 a bottle. (its basically Peroni IMO)

With all the cheap beer available over Christmas, I hope someone has bought me a bigger pair of trousers!

Its amazing beer has come down so much in price though, that price is cheaper than what you'd pay in Germany ... much cheaper..

Picked up 5 for €10 in Drogheda which was still great value. Unlikely they'll last till Christmas so may grab a few more.

Drank this in China- you may as well be drinking water... And that's coming from a female! The Chinese can't handle their drink... Wouldn't buy it even at those prices

A poster asked was it tasty- I replied to it. Just cause you didn't like my opinion, don't get all p.o over it. Besides it's hardly a bargain if the quality's sh#te

It has already been established in this thread by 2 people that the export beer is totally different from the Tsingtao sold in China. The Tsingtao sold in Ireland is one of my favourite beers and I do consider myself to know a thing or two about beer.
Maybe you didn't really have a valid point to make but you were just looking for an opportunity to tell a bunch of new people that you have been to a far away country. If so, well done.

Thinly veiled 'I've been to China post'

A fair amount of guys on this thread have already mentioned that this beer is a dam tasty beer, the fact that you've been to China and didn't like it is irrelevant.

If the beer was over priced, and was mentioned in BARGAIN alerts, fair play.
Five x 660ml bottles for ten euro is a dam good bargain in my eyes though.

Horses for courses and all that.

I drank this whilst in Beijing also and thought it tasted lovely, having paid 30c for 600ml bottle is always nice though......

Me too. It wasn't bad at all. Took me ages to cop on that you could buy in corner shops. It's shockingly expensive in bars there

Anyhow, still a good bargain at 5 for €10

Someone already said that this is a different beer to the one sold in China.

I've tried it once (not in China) and didn't like it either.

I think it is very good. Also, I think it's the same as the one in China (was about 25c. In 2008 !)
