Just wondering what peoples opinions/experiences of supplementing with digestive enzymes is. The majority of the time I have a clean diet (no processed foods, no grains, plenty of veg, protein & good fats etc.). I recently switched to Orange Triad as my multivit and I have been taking a good probiotic. Would a digestive enzyme just be a waste of money? If you have good experiences with them could you mention which ones you take? Thanks

I recommend super enzymes by now foods and only way of knowing is taking them for 4-6 weeks with main meals. they are quite cheap anyway

i find them handy as i have to consume large amounts of food daily and then be able to go train soon after.

They are pretty useless if someone were to take them and continue eating or drinking junk foods and lots of grain based foods (e.g. wheat) which can irritate the gut lining

I actually tried those before but I don't think I noticed much of a difference. I was thinking of trying the Doctors Best one to see if I noticed a change.

What change are you looking for?

less bloating, gas etc this might be sorted by simply eating more slowly and making sure you are sticking to the way you said you were eating above

Yeah I tend to burp quite a bit. I've always been a fast eater so maybe I'm overcomplicating it by considering enzymes and should just slow down. What changes have you noticed from taking them? (It's funny, you replied to my post here just as I was reading your post on your blog about books for Christmas!)

I'm taking digestive enzymes, I stopped for a bit because I was completely broke, but the difference was noticeable. My thyroid isn't working too well so my digestive system can be a bit slow (I can even feel whey protein mixed with water sticking around my stomach for 2 hours) I only really noticed when I stopped taking them.

I've also found, probably because of the thyroid again that my body finds it difficult to get everything out of what I eat. They seem to help a little with that.

I only really noticed this when I stopped taking them after months of taking them.

But yeah, 1st step chew your food properly.

I took them a couple of years ago when i was eating quite a bit to gain weight, found they did the job, I started them about a week into the diet and really noticed it.

No worries and as mentioned i have found that i am less bloated and less fatigued after a heavy meal than i would have been in the past and can go training sooner after a meal whereas i the past i would have had to leave it for ages or go for something lighter before training.

Hope this helps and slowing down when you eat might be the easiest step to firstly take.

I have had clients that suffered really badly with digestion (reflux, bloating etc) respond really well to the NOW digestive enzymes (and coming off all wheat) but as i said they aren't going to do a jot if someone eats crap.

Is there any chance taking these digestive enzymes in the longterm could lead to a lowering in production of your own naturally produced digestive enzymes?
Will your system just kick back and take it easy?

The whey I use has prebiotics, probiotics and digestive enzymes.

I also use a stand alone product which has the same three ingredients above albeit in higher dosages.

I really rate them and would not be without them.

What brand do you like Guvnor?
