Brilliant interview with Frampton, comes across really well: http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/review/boxing-the-face-of-2013-217570.html

Andy lee is on the undercard.

Andy lee is on the undercard.

Seemingly vs Anthony Fitzgerald aswell, a fight a cult group of Irish boxing fans have been looking forward to (well the ones that don't like Fitz very much).
I wouldn't be quite as keen to see the fight for the same reasons as those who don't like Fitz, but I do enjoy contests between 2 Irish fighters and the higher the calibre of fighter the rarer they become so I shall enjoy this.

It's a good fight for both men considering the positions they're in.

lads, whats the atmosphere like on a Frampton fight night in Belfast?

id love to go up for this fight, but i have to admit im still a little bit wary of having a southern accent, at a predominately loyalist supported fight. If you know what i mean?

i really want to give Frampton the support, but i dont want to end up like the Miami Show band for it

Considering Martin Lindsay, Andy Lee, Jamie Conlan and Anto Fitzgerald are all fighting I'd expect a fairly mixed crowd. Apparently there was a bit of bother at the last Frampton fight but I've no idea to what extent that was.
Hopefully someone else can fill you in a bit more.

I myself would have no qualms about going to a Frampton card, but maybe that's a naive view seeing as I haven't been to one yet.

I was at the last one, you'll be fine with a Southern accent, I didn't hear anything dodgy during the Frampton fight, just during one other fight but the group of 15-20 only watched that fight, didn't even watch Frampton or McCloskey.

Highly recommend going, was a great atmosphere last time.

There was a specific altercation between Dee Walsh fans and some of Carls lads on the concourse. Isolated and targeted.

I personally Would not have a second thought about going to the fight and despite Carl headlining there will still probably be more Catholics/Nationalists in the Arena. It will be a good night. You have my word on that.

If anyone wants tickets please drop me a line and I'll sort them out for you without need for booking few etc.

missus got me them for xmas.....two nights in belfast i hve never been....i would imagine crowd will be mixed....would hope there would be no hassle with southern accent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 323 ✭✭el flaco

If you're worried about the accent you could always just sit in silence for the night :)

There's an awful lot of hysteria about Northern Ireland. Peoples perceptions are often way wide of the mark.
I'd say that once you don't go around burning flags or picking fights with people you should generally be OK. I'm not sure they're foolish enough to immediately assume that because you have a southern accent that you're automatically a Catholic/Nationalist either.

Just go and have a good time and approach things with the same caution you would if you were in a venue in any other city where alcohol is being consumed...

Was at the Frampton v Moliter fight last september and I am from Mayo. Had no hassle there from anyone. I would reccommend getting some ground floor tickets as near as you can to the ring as it looked a small bit rough up in the tiers where the cheaper tickets are, there were alot of groups chanting and singing and had to be calmed by security. Also when you leave the arena try get a taxi asap as fights do break out outside afterwards apparantly.

Also make sure your fed before you go to the Oddssey because all thats in there is overpriced rubbish food that you have to eat standing up!!

I stayed at the IBIS its only 5 min in a taxi from the arena.

Be surprised if you got any grief at the fight, man.

Enjoy it like you would no other.

Martinez looks in fantastic shape. Going to be very dangerous early on but Frampton to win easily on points.

You 2 are idiots  if that is how you actually think dont bother coming upto Belfast...I'm sure the protestants would sniff you out as soon as your off the train and kill you because thats how things are up here

Hope to see a good win from Frampton, he'll have massive support tonight from a great local crowd(and anyone not naive enough to think they can travel!). I was at the darts in the odyssey(same arena) on Thursday night and they introduced Frampton between games and he got a huge cheer from everyone. I was sitting front row and think more people were up tryign to shake his hand than any of the dart players

    who said anything about Protestants?

My comment was tongue in cheek by the way. I love Northern Ireland.

It doesn't look like andy lee has changed much, if at all. Probably deserves a free pass at the moment though. His punch picking is excellent but his workrate and stamina brings problems on himself. Even if he just jabbed a bit more he could reduce opponents momentum. Great effort by Fitzgerald though. Well done.

Selby looking pure class against Lindsay here.
Martin is trying hard as you'd expect, but Selby has an answer for everything and his body shots are top notch.

Must be frustrating for Lindsay knowing that no matter what he does, he doesn't have the power to trouble the other guy.

I hear Andy Lee didn't look too good?

Just the same approach really. Very little movement, allowing his opponent to dictate things and then getting into trading sessions. His work was much cleaner than Fitzgeralds but he kept backing off. He admitted himself that he wasn't great, but he did deserve the win. 98-94. It was about right.

Very intriguing stuff so far. A real test for Frampton by the looks of it.
