Hi all been meaning to put this up for a while now so today i decided to do it.
Six years ago i went to oz on a working holiday visa, while up in darwin the opportunity of sailing from cullen harbour darwin to davao harbour philipeans came upon my lap.

I was always into boats more then others but when this came about i jumped at it.
It took us 11 days and 1250km to reach our destination.
Once i got off the boat in davao i knew that boats were always going to be a big part of my life, its as if it was imprinted into me and there it will stay.

I was going to rewrite the whole diary but then i though maybe not it would take way too long for me to do, and i would proberly change and edit parts of it.
so what you are reading here is straight from the diary and how it happened on the day.

I really hope ye enjoy the read and can figure out my gumpy hand writing

    Good trip Whacker.

Many of the locals call the island Pearl Farm, but Pearl Farm is actually (I believe it was a Pearl Farm at one stage) the resort on the island. The island is called Samal. A couple of years ago there was (migth still be there!) an Irish yacht on the hard in the harbour where the ferry comes in, I never got to find out its history, but I think I have a photo somewhere.

kool if you find the photo pop it up would love to see it. nice info about samal, it looked really beautiful from a distance a resort would be right for it.
i doubt the yacht would still be there, i remember the skip saying that boats get stolen from the harbour (foreign boats) he was saying he knew a fellow that brought his boat here and went ashore for a few nights and when he came back his boat was gone.
the skip never left his catarmeran over night he always stayed on board over night, and when he left for the day he had a local stay on board minding it for him.
in saying that the locals are extremely friendly we got to know a few from a bar/restaurant and they took us in like we were a part of the family. never forget it.:)

:eek::eek::eek: I achually cant believe it, how did you find this??
    that is truely amazing now.
i can see one or two changes on the boat that he had done like the fiberglass canopy.
i had to laugh when she said alot of the mechanical gear and electrics and hydrolics were failing, on our trip we had one prop working.

the reason we traveled from darwin to davaou was to finish the boat, all the inside needed fitting, a complete refit was needed. he was telling us that in davaou he can get cheap labour compaired to oz.
and thats one thing i regret when posting up my thread and for my own memories that i didnt take any pictures of the inside of the boat. or around the boat.
gonna try and get into contact with her see if she has some pictures of the finished boat that she might send on to me. if she dose ill post them up here.

thanks for showing me her story davlacey really appreciate it.:)

I really enjoyed that read, thanks for uploading. I love the way you wrote as if you were speaking ("Please God", "Session on", "The Lads"), it really brought across the message of an Irish boy having an adventure far from home :)

Cheers pclancy, sorry about the late response, I'm on another one of my adventures here in Canada.

Dunno would I get this opportunity again but let's wait and see what the future holds
