We're always ranked in the top 10, first page on Google....so why don't tv companies use that to promote their shows and do competitions?

Free DVDs and promo stuff, it'll drive traffic and eyes to the show?

It's a good idea but would it not conflict with the rule on commercial advertising.

Email Boards HQ and ask them would be the best thing.

I might ask ABC Family for some freebies..... :)

I'm running their PR over here...;)

Boards.ie does enough competitions, really and they're usually pretty excellent ones too. I personally feel it would really take away from the TV forum itself if we were to commercialize it in that way.

hello@boards.ie is the email address to ask questions like that, or perhaps even ask for a general consensus over at the Feedback forum.

I agree with Richard, NBC should send us Community merchandise.

^ i dsagree....i cited ABC Family as an example. DVDs of there shows as competition presents for winners could bring more eyes to the channel. Yeah its US based....but they show all there shows in the UK on various channels etc.

I think if Boards say offered a box set of Game Of Thrones season 1 it would boost traffic, add revenue + promote the show.

Competitions are a form of advertising/promotion so they are organised through our media sales team-if a competition is of benefit to or related to a forum (like the Leinster rugby comp) then we will run it from that forum as well as the homepage.

It's simply a case that we haven't really had any competitions/prizes which were specific to the Television forum yet. That said, I'll pass it on to the sales team and see what they say :)

Thanks Nicola!....my suggestion is, get yer guys to put these suggestions to the respective channels....like HBO or even local Irish companies, like HMV etc.

Surely companies must see the value of a freebies and competitions, or forum spefic based competitions....it benefits Boards + whatever tv company like HBO. BBC, Showtime etc. or retailers like Amazon or HMV.

    Everybody wins! :)

Well now considering a lot of the Amreican shows that are watched on this forum wouldn't be through the standard channels I don't see why HBO would be interested at all.

"Hey we love your new show. Can you sponsor a competition for our Irish TV forum?"
"Eh..... Ireland? That show isn't available over there until next year."
    "Oh."

OK - this would be possibly slightly paranoid of me, but is there a chance that it could land boards.ie in trouble? Realistically, the majority of TV shows we are discussing here aren't shown in Ireland and while the mention of where or how we're watching it is strictly forbidden, could that backfire against here?

most shows are shown in the UK at least, and we have Sky...Boards is not hosting any illegal links, discussion of US based shows is very different......

We're not promoting illegalality or piracy, forum discussion is different to pointing people to a Torrent.

Dunno...maybe because HBO shows are shown in the UK and Ireland?

Richard you know as well as I do that the majority of shows you yourself are discussing on this forum are not available in the UK or Ireland at the time you're discussing them.
