Leaflet dropped in the door saying that the 12 days of Christmas will be on again this year. Starting around next Tuesday I reckon.

Let the handbagging (going by last years posts) begin..........

I was in Dunnes today and was looking at their party range of food , €2 each or 3 for €7 ????????

At first I thought some of the range must be more expensive but no , everything available was €2.

Day 1 is not promising - Poinsietta €2.99 from €5.99.

They had 2 offers per day last year. Is this cutbacks?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

Lidl have the slightly bigger version (not the Dunnes mini) at a normal price of €3.49

    Where's the bargain OP?

Pretty poor start, they should really update the site at 10pm the night before to give an idea whether it's worth going in to the shop or not.

The high court should do everyone a favour and sent the receivers in...

The mini Poinsettia for €2.99 is a great deal. It comes in a cute ceramic pot, Irish grown too on the packaging - we should be doing all we can to support our own stores and producers this Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,657 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Dunnes really gotta up their game. I find their range of products abysmal compared to all the others, even Superquinn.
And I shop there now and then, but usually find myself going to Aldi/.lidl at the same time. Lacks any imagine and useless to go in and pick up something nice to stick in the oven...really bland and unimaginative. Maybe I'm too fussy but I find them the worst for range. Not bad on price to be fair though.

Their first day of Christmas offer isn't great so your hoping their thousands of employees lose their jobs, seems like a logical response alright

A buyout would seem the most likely. Dunnes are still running on a flawed business model.

People have to shop somewhere so the jobs would be transferred

Its a sheite offer alright boomtish.

Supersavers have finish powerball 114's for 8.99 most of the time cheapest I've seen anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭Nanazolie

Regina XXL twinpacks have been on offer at that price in one store or another for ages.

However, a lot of very good offers on at the moment in Dunnes. Nolans wild smoked salmon 800g for only 14.99. Beat that. Tins of Roses, Quality street and so on for 5.49€. Did a big shop this morning and used the 10€ off coupon that I had received in the post with my vouchers. Brought down the shop to 40 euros and I have enough food for the week.

Supervalu currently have 400g smoked salmon half price at €5.49

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭Nanazolie

But that's not wild salmon. That's always much dearer. All stores, even Centra, currently have offers for 300g or so of smoked salmon at half price, but it will never be the same quality. If you were to buy wild smoked salmon online or from the fishmonger, prices are usually around 30€ the kilo

Ah Christ...these nearly top the bloody plant...do Dunnes actually have a Marketing Department? Great offers in themselves and all but as a 12 Days Offers of Christmas I fail to see where they fit in!!

in fairness all of the offers from today will be used over the xmas period :p

I see your point though. Last year they did a good deal on Romantica ice cream, think it was going for 3quid. Which was about 60% off

Haagen Daz ice cream is currently half price aswell

Coca Cola/ Diet Coke/ Coca Cola Zero 18x330ml Cans.
    RRP €11.29.
    Now €6.49 each!

Again, pretty crap offer, SuperValu had this a few weeks back at a fiver and these are available everyday in Dealz at 1.49 for 4 which is marginally more expensive but does not tie you into such a large quantity.

Lidl have 18 cans of coke for €5.99.

jayob10, Tesco have Romantica at €3.34 at the moment.

nothing that will make people bang on the doors. Honestly, I was kind of attracted to the shop by the "12 days to Christmas" yesterday but having seen the last offers I don't think I'll bother again

I've only even seen them as 8.99. 6.49 is still a good price but not the huge discount Dunnes are making it out to be.

    Its so stupid.

If Dunnes has actual good offers (that they made a minor loss on) then people would flock to the stores and more than likely buy more stuff therefore offsetting the loss Dunnes made from the deals.

Of course us boardsies would only go for the deal but we are the minority.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭Dan Chipowski

Three disappointments in a row. If they are not even going to match Lidl's price of 5.99 why bother.

They were €7.30 a week ago and possibly longer (and marked at half price)

    €14.60 might be a RRP.

As long as it has been €11.29 at some point in the past, they are legally entitled to state that it 'was' €11.29 unfortunately. Dunnes isn't the only supermarket that does this though.
