How's it going lads, I've been away from the gym for a while due to an injury but I'm back this week and I need a new weight gainer. I've used Serious Mass in the past (Vanilla I think) but I really hated the taste. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a weight gainer that gets results (first and foremost) but actually tastes OK too :P

    Is there such a thing?

    Best tasting weight gainer?

Fillet steak with an egg fried in its juices.

If you're set on taking a shake to gain weight instead of eating, try make your own. It'll save you money and be a lot tastier.

    - A scoop of whey protein
    - two table spoons of peanut butter
    - almonds
    - flaxseeds
    - a banana
    - greek yoghurt
    - blueberries / raspberries / strawberries

Throw any combination of those into a blender with full fat milk and drink away. To be honest you can throw anything you want into it really, dark chocolate whatever you fancy. If you're not arsed doing that, Anabolic Mass by Matador Muscle tastes savage. Majority of weight gainers are shíte though.

    Oisín

I highly recommend ON Serious Mass, chocolate/mint-chocolate (tastes like a crushed up mint aero - delish).

stay away from strawberry and vanilla flavoured supps - too sweet

    -1L milk
    -3 scoops protein
    -3 scoops oats
    -2 tablespoons of peanut butter
    -1 tablespoon honey
    -1 banana

I think its +1000 cal. Tastes good and beats the hell out of weight gainers which are just some protein and very overpriced sugar, its also cheaper so you use alot more of it

That sounds sexual, i'm going to give it a crack this weekend.

Would you recommend one of these a day when trying to gain weight? or more or less

    cheers

Well to start have one a day and when your weight levels out up it again, but the same thing applies to all your meals throughout the day. When the weight gain levels off eat more quality food throughout the day

Oat gain raspberry flavour is really nice but I'm always suspect as to what exact quantities of ingredients are being thrown in to these mixes and are you actually getting value for your money. I usually go down the bulkpowders route.

    2.5 kg Unflavoured whey-€35.70
    2.5kg Oats-€6.76
    1kg Peanut Butter-€5.53
    1kg of Creatine-€13.60

So for roughly €70 including delivery you have a good quality weight gainer where you can control how much you are taking in.

Just eat 300-400 grams of peanuts a day on top of everything else

i forgot the point of the thread(best tasting),peanuts aren't all that nice....But i do see peoples taste buds and appetites holding them back from making any gains what so ever.

Oh i dont like that,,that many eggs,,can i just take the protein powder....

Probably the worst nut option to go after. Used to be a fan, wouldn't go near it now.

    Almond butter ftw.

Does the oats not cause satiety?

I've mine put through a blender so it's not that far off being like ready brek. When it's all mixed together it goes down easy enough. I tend to be full about 2 thirds down, at that stage you just force down the rest.
It's like what was just said about taste buds holding you back, sometimes you just have to horse it down!

No such thing as it depends on one's personal preference.

However on steaks I would ditch the fillet steak and go for a ribeye instead aged 30+ days in dry salt chamber...:D

Back to weight gainers I would go for one with oats and other carb sources and one that has at least 30-33g protein per 100g of powder and definitely not one with a crazy massive serving size.

The reason I ask is that I see the oats & whey parroted around other forums. Its like its trendy to say. Not saying you are like that.

The reason I asked by satiety is if the oats make them fill full, wouldn't they miss there next meal. I've heard arguements where malto was considered better as the person will feel hungry faster.

Call me trendy as much as you like! Mailto might be better especially if it doesn't kill appetite. I tend to have that drink as either breakfast or a 2nd breakfast after the gym so itd be fair to call it a meal replacement either.
I've a naturally rubbish appetite but I'd almost never miss a meal, I wouldn't let it be an option, I've found if you think about your next meal well in advance it helps to get you hungry

If you don't mind me asking, what flavour is the protein??? I must try this.

It's unflavoured whey from bulk powders, I definitely don't drink it for the taste but it is actually nice enough tasting

You are spot on tbh Gummy - I have seen a mass gainer used by some women due to the feeling of being full for longer was beneficial plus if they took just a 50g shake it was under 200 calories as well!

i wouldnt be a big fan of weight gainers that you drink, wheres the fun in that ? just eat alot more (good foods such as brown carb and meat) than you have been and you will notice your size increasing. Also add in your general whey supplements.

thats my opinion but whatever you pick all the best in bulking

Not always easy to eat the qty of food.

A chap I know who did very well in the recent UKBFF champs in the UK was eating 2.2kg cooked weight of meat per day in the run up to his show.

He is however almost a full time athlete and even still he liquidised his first mince meal!

I don't mind mass drinks either store bought or home made but if bulking eating more if first port of call.

Obviously food is the best way but some people find it hard to get in so many cals.

The two gainers i've tried are Kinetica Oat Gain Raspberry flavour and Serious Mass Chocolate flavour.

Basically im an ectomorph and always found it hard to put on weight through just eating loads of food.

Oat Gain Raspberry - Taste was great, serving size was perfect but I didn't see great results from it at all. Didn't put on any weight taking 2 servings a day along with a proper bulking diet.

Serious Mass Chocolate - Taking this at the moment, just started my second bag, tastes good, servings are massive so I take half servings, 2 a day. Have seen the best results with this, i've gained just over half a stone in 4 weeks going through 1 bag of it. I had tried bulking many times before and this is the first time it's started to work for me so id recommend trying Serious Mass again in chocolate flavour seeing as you don't like the vanilla.

I've been taking this once a day for the last 9/10 days and it's delicious.

In your opinion would cranking it up to 2 a day be too much or overdoing it?

I'm 5.10 79 kg and trying to put on some weight, i'm bulking so i'm not too worried about being 'ripped'

    Any thoughts anyone?:)

depends on what else you're eating. you don't want your bulking to turn into majority 'fatting'. try aim for +500calorie surplus each day
