Chronic Indigestion.

For the last 2 days I've been in extreme discomfort with indigestion. I've barely eaten anything in the 2 days barring soup and the odd cup of tea. I'm bloated, I have a shortness of breath, restless sleep, I'm anxious and also lethargic.

I've always had indigestion problems but never as severe as this. Has anyone experienced anything similar.

Being honest I get little or no exercise and my diet is pretty irregular. I work antisocial hours also.

What do you recommend to relieve this?

    Fix your diet.

    Any other suggestions?

Gaviscon. A big bottle of it. Massively reduce the amount of simple sugars and acidic foods in your diet, they're usually what cause the worst indigestion.

To me it sounds like you were out on the batter on Monday or Tuesday and your body is still reeling from it. But if you haven't been drinking, then it might be worth a trip to the GP.

    Edit:
I recommend the GP on two counts:

    1. Persistent severe indigestion can often be the symptom of a gastric illness like the vomiting bug.
    2. People who don't get indigestion can often mistake it for a heart attack. However, the inverse is true and people who get a lot of indigestion & heartburn can often overlook a heart complaint.

I had a few pints on Tuesday night and a couple of hot whiskeys because I had a touch of a headcold. It's possible the lemon in the hot whiskeys done the damage. I wasn't hungover the next day though.

Just as likely to be the whiskey as the lemon - whiskey gives me chronic heartburn. (I don't really get indigestion but I've always suffered from heartburn/acid reflux...t'was very bad when I was overweight. Coffee and orange juice were the worst culprits for me).

Definitely fix the diet though - maybe post up what you eat and the Boardsies can guide you. They're a helpful lot. :)

A cold can set you off with indigestion as well, leaving your stomach feeling tender. Avoid acidic foods (whiskey == no no), use the gaviscon to keep comfortable and if it's still the same tomorrow, go to your GP for further investigation. A 3-day bout of indigestion isn't normal.

Okay, lots of pseudo medical advice here. Although its 'only' indigestion, its still a medical issue, and your first port of call is seeing a real life medical professional to get any larger issues ruled out.
