Blog/Newsletter

I am looking for some advice.

I am currently doing some volunteer work for a local youth group. What they want me to do is create a monthly newsletter template and a blog. I have some limited experience creating html websites and I have Dreamweaver CS4 on my laptop.

Can anyone tell me what the easiest way to go about this would be? I was thinking of creating a html template on Dreamweaver and using blogspot or something similar. I was looking into MailChimp to create a mailing list for sending out the newsletter. We are not permitted to have a website.

    Anyone any advice?

A blog is a website, but I guess you mean you're not allowed set up your own domain and hosting. Blogspot should be fine.

And Mail Chimp has their own email template editor, would you not just use that? Creating email templates is a major pain, much worse than creating a HTML website.

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/boardsie-enhancement-suite/

    Chrome/Edge/Opera: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/boardsie-enhancement-suit/bbgnmnfagihoohjkofdnofcfmkpdmmce

You cannot put HTML templates from Dreamweaver into Blogspot, ie blogs made with blogger. You need to use their structures and ways of buildiing sites.

(You can put some HTML and Javascript in - ref: http://blogger-hints-and-tips.blogspot.co.uk/2010/10/putting-html-code-from-third-party-into.html- but not entire pages.)

But really, just use the front-end provided by Blogger, for a basic blog you should put most effort into content and almost none into coding.

Oh - and sooner or later you will meet someone who tells you that Blogger is useless, or your site will be deleted, or is bad for SEO or ... a zillion other half-truths... and soooooo you should definitely use Wordpress because it's just better and there are plug-ins for everything.

    Don't believe everything they say.

Only use Wordpress if you don't want any advertising on your blog, or you're prepared to go down the self-hosting route (ie pay monthly hosting chanrges)/ Also, if you do, make sure you have the technical skills to ensure that your installation is always fully up-to-date, and to assess whether any 3rd party plugin you may use is also up-to-date.

I have set up a template on MailChimp, simple enough once you get your head around it.

Blogs are new to me. When I set up a Gmail account for the group I found Google Blogger. That would probably be the handiest for me.

    Cheers

Everytime I have tried Wordpress I download what seems like an endless amount of files but have no idea how to go about putting the blog together.
