Not sure where to put this but seen as its a new console based on "retro" games I reckon heres best.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qeUoS7THok

    Neo Geo X

    Will it be released here?

    If so what price?

    Anyone getting one?

I looks to be about €250 on ebay with shipping when converted for the gold package.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEOGEO-X-GOLD-LIMITED-EDITION-CONSOLE-SYSTEM-BUNDLE-Preorder-for-December-20th-/251178621126?pt=Video_Games&hash=item3a7b6998c6

    .... tempted.

On a related note I bought this today for the PSP.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001I454JO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

£16.49 second hand. Not bad considering its up at £26.95 again. Its weird cause last week I saw it at about the 16quid mark and didnt take it for whatever reason, went back and it had gone up to 26quid mark so I didnt take it and went on today and it was back to 16quid again so I said yup I'll take that. I presume as its second had from different retailers but still seems weird fluctuation wise.

Anyway cant wait to get it as I never got to play any Neo Geo games back in the day.

Might tempt me further towards the Neo Geo X as well.

Nearly bought the Neo Geo Pocket Colour on ebay recently but was outbid. Probably just as well considering the great value on the psp game.

I'll be waiting for the Neo George X to be discounted, you are probably better off with the PSP collection tbh.
Blaze do not have a great record for good, quality products, in fact if the Neo George X turns out to be good then it'll be a first for the company!

You can get a MVS board with games for the price of the Neo Geo X. It's a waste of money imo. It's emulated, not original hardware. Also you have to buy games on cards, there's no rom support and they seem expensive especially considering the price of MVS carts.

You are much better off getting a Neo Geo Pocket Colour, definitely one of the best consoles ever made. You can get one for 20 - 30 euros and there's a guy on ebay selling 10 of the best games on the system as a bundle for 40 euros including shipping. The rest of the games are pretty cheap, even Faselei turns up for about 10 - 20 euro. Of course there's a few real expensive games but most of the good ones are easy to get your hands on.

And little downloading and installing will give you the entire Neo Geo back catalogue on the PSP anyhow.

Only thing the Neo Geo X is good for is keeping it boxed and then selling it for an inflated price in a few years.

Even the damn aspect ratio is wrong.

If you want a Neo Geo fix as Retr0 mentioned above, then get a 1 slot MVS set, a cheap Vogatek supergun and buy the real arcade MVS carts. It's a hell of a lot cheaper and is the real deal rather than emulation.

I've been kind of against the whole emulation thing to be honest due to not wanting to have heaps of games I wouldnt play, I've been just buying the ones I wanted and giving them all my time...

But I think I'm slowly warming to the idea once I use it for games like neo geo ones for example that you just cant get outside of buying the proper hardware etc and to sample other games before getting them.

I've no idea how it'd all work. I presume I need software, hardware and websites for download etc..

I currently have a Nintendo DS and a PSP so they'd be the two I'd need to modify or whatever to use.

I know its a big ask but if someone wants to help me out it'd be much appreciated. I would google it but it'd take a lot of research and I'd probably end up with the wrong hardware/software and malicious sites etc..

    Cheers,

    Eoin

Go to QJ.net, they are a gaming news site but also with extensive links to all the info and their own download area for the sort of software you'll need.
The actual game files though, that's your own call tbh, no one on a legit site can link to them, so Google be your friend.

He doesn't seem to have the 10 game lot anymore but there is an 8 game one:

This one is ok value but to be honest you really want SNK vs Capcom and the first one has better fighting games:

You got a bargain, Gal Fighters can go for 35-40 on ebay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

Yeah seems like I've done ok alright. Will post up some pics when I get it in the post. All the games are not in boxes so probably not as expensive as 35-40euro in fairness.
Bottom line though is I'm lookin forward to playin it.

Yeah I contacted that seller to buy Gal Fighters from her but it wasn't boxed. :(

Still, really good price for all that. Enjoy what is a fantastic console. I really must take mine out more! Traded a Saturn for a boxed copy of Cotton for it months ago and still haven't played it!

I was looking at that ad before, all the games were unboxed. But a fair price compared to what she was looking for originally, the opening asking price was way over the top.

So it's supposed to be out in Europe but delayed until after christmas but people have gotten their hands on it in America and from reading impressions on NeoGaf it's a piece of **** as we all thought.

The unit is unsurprisingly emulated but here's the kicked, it's not even good emulation. The system has problems keeping up with most games resulting in horrible screen tearing in all games when they get busy. It's really noticeable and there's plenty of videos of it online. Metal Slug in particular is awful.

Also the video output to TV is pretty poor with very bad colours which are noticeable even on a youtube video.

However apparently the stick is nice. Then again you can get a NeoGeo stick for 20 euros if you are lucky, 40 at most.

I'd a guy on eBay asking me to drop my postage costs to Canada or else he was gettin a neo geo x. I told just to get a NGPC instead if that was the case.

Pretty much as expected, the moment I heard Blaze were heading this project up my interested in it just died. Hard to believe how Neo Geo signed off on the final product, sounds woeful.

I'll probably pick one up when they hit the €50 mark out of curiosity. The Neo Geo Pocket still has the nicest control stick ever.

Neo Geo home console hit €50? Unless they overproduce and make an absolute ton of them which don't sell, then I can't ever see that happening.

Private sellers will know how much SNK products are worth so I can't see them letting them go cheap.

That's such a shame, I'm really surprised they went that route. Surely the people who would buy this, the people who would appreciate a NeoGeo hand held, are precisely the people who would care about precise compatibility.

Its already been hacked, you have to rename imported roms to that of the name of the built in roms & they have to be the same filesize...I'd say they'll fix that in time though. Apparently it had little or no security

    Its for sale here:
    http://www.superufo.com/products/snk/SNK_NEOGEO_X_Gold_Limited_Edition_Asian_Version.html

BTW these guys are great and always ship on time never had a problem with them. I have a soft spot for the Neo Geo and would love one of these just to have that controller on my lap and decent video output on the big screen. If it was about 150 euro including delivery I would certainly pick it up but not at 220 which is what it works out as.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,401 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Apparently the video ouput and controller are pretty naff. The sound is terrible as well.

I would have thought anyone with a genuine fondness for Neo Geo would stay well clear of that heap. Buying it only encourages these companies to produce more crap like it.

Its not like SNK put up a struggle against it. Cashing in on rose tinted retro goodness is all it is.
Hardware is a repackaged dingoo handheld.

Of course they didn't, nor would any company if they can make money from their previous history with minimal effort.

A MVS 1 slot board for about 80 euro, a cheap vogatek supergun for about 40 and you're good to go with arcade MVS carts ;)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

People always seem to forget the MVS option, thinking only of the expensive AES route.
Heck, install the Unibios and then you can choose which to run your carts as.
It is a cheap, if not an especially pretty, way to an authentic Neo Geo gaming experience.

    Ah, posted too soon; http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/24/neo-geo-still-in-production/
There has been a recent rumor about the end of the production of the NEOGEO X System. This rumor is incorrect. Tommo will be continuing to support the NEOGEO X format going forward with more games, peripherals and software updates, as well as more units of the console hardware. The NEOGEO X Gold System Limited Edition Collection Series that includes Ninja Masters, was always planned to be a limited edition product. We are currently manufacturing our final run of this Limited Edition Collection Series and our distributors worldwide expect to have the final stock in April. Given the popularity of the NEOGEO X format, we don't expect this stock to last long.

We are absolutely delighted with how the NEOGEO X has performed so far, and are incredibly grateful for the support of gamers and we are looking forward to continuing the development of this game platform.

No mention of how poopy it is then?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

That's a load of nonsense, the console is toast.
They are, at the very least, cutting their losses and are going to sell the handheld only, and burn through those before ditching the evil thing completely.
They talked up the Gamegadget as well, all the while it was crashing and burning.
Even the article, with company spokesman encouraging people to buy the limited edition before it's gone.... the thing is crap, it's not the awesome rerelease of a 20th century classic, no, it's a poor facsimile and a bad buy.
