Will take some getting used to, finding everything again. Looks cool though, I love architectural things like that

    /nerd

What's the story with computers? The only ones I saw were to the right of the entrance but most didn't seem to be working when I was in. Are there more hiding away that I didn't find?

^ don't think there are anymore computers, correct me if I'm wrong.
I think it's a bad design in that no matter where you are if somebody is talking you can hear them, I mean I don't like the way all the floors are 'open' if that makes sense, and you can't just pop out the door to the stairs to take a phonecall like the old bit.

I'd love someone to correct me if I'm wrong but I could only find one bathroom for men on the ground floor which, remarkably, is smaller than the toilets on the second floor of the old library. It has ONE urinal and two cubicles. I also noticed that the old library can't be accessed through the ground floor?..what's with that  Last bad thing I noticed in some of the rooms was the temperature. I actually couldn't stay in the common room with the bean-bags because it was so warm! One of the main issues i had with the old library was that it was either too hot or too cold.

I think the quality of the furniture is great though and obviously lots of additional power points is helpful. Overall it's a far more welcoming building and I'll be using it far more now without the fear of not getting a decent seat :)

I'm sure all the problems will be ironed out over the next few months.

    It has sockets.....wooohooo.

I like it...the fact that it looks like an office should help my work output.

Y'know the way you need your student card to get in and out? Well... what if you lose your card in the library? What then?

You make me think of Tom Hanks living in an airport. Are there vending machines in the library? If so, you're sorted.

Wait, are you trapped there now?

    Is there a coffee machine?

Where's this 24 hour study place?
Not that I'm gonna use it or anything. Just have this sleeping bag and an empty bank account is all.

Does anyone know what's going into the section to the left as you come through the main door?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭mickstupp

I went in earlier to leave back evil books I had to use for an evil essay. The place seems shiny. Too shiny. Very officey. I started getting flashbacks from an earlier life, office career, partitions, cold sweats, had to leave quickly. Didn't venture upstairs. If it's as freaky as the lobby I'll be nowhere near the place.

Are they expecting croke park crowds or something, there's so much space! Really nice though. Great for the students and the college.

I walked into the old library by mistake...complete mind-****.

It's very shiny, and quite like the library in DCU IIRC.

Loving the new computers. Not the ones right inside the entrance, but behind those, covered over in glass. Very CSI-esque. I highly approve

In there myself.... very nice the study rooms with white boards is a cool touch to the place :)

The new library is great but some people seem to have forgotten that your meant to be quiet while there. People were having full scale conversations while standing beside the book shelves while others are trying to study at the desks area. Its very annoying and unfair.

Also the Wifi is incredibly slow, has anyone else noticed this?

i think is is great and a credit to the college, except for the effing talking now. people just think its ok to go to the bookshelves to talk or use the phone. drives me crazy

    The library is unbelievably cold.

I agree, it was so cold on Saturday that I couldn't concentrate on doing my assignments

Im in the library now, its cold!

Everyone seems to think its okay to walk around talking loudly, on their phones & call peoples names from the other side of the library.

The lights keeping getting brighter, then dimming down.

The noise of the construction is louder than when they were building the library.

And I miss the little booths along the windows.

I have gone back to using the old library, the new library is too loud and the lights dimming and brightening up is getting really distracting. A lot quieter in the old library, and a lot easier to do work free from people discussing last night's adventures.

It's very impressive and a great facility to have but the place is very sterile. For all the faults, I still prefer the old library.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,134 ✭✭✭Duddy

"HAHA I BETTER HEAD ON, I'M JUST IN THE LIBRARY. OK, OK, WHAT? OH YEAH HAHAHAHAHAHA RIGHT HERE I'M AWAY. RIGHT SEE YOU LATER, BYEBYEBYEBYEbye.....what? OH HES GONE"

    Urge to kill: rising.

It's swish alright, but there seems to be no demarcation of where "quiet-time" begins and "roaring at each other in a midlands accent" ends. In the old place you knew when you came through those doors **** would go down if you chatted away. Now there are no such doors:(

I tried that, but when I went in there was a lot of construction noise.

I also cant find any books, and the lights dont seem to come on for me when I walk into any of the book isles.

I found a great app for studying in the new library. Its just basically plays rain noises. Its the app version of rainymood.com. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/rainy-mood/id566752651?mt=8

^ I've been listening to white noise myself :pac: way too noisy in the library :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭purebeta

Pink Noise is way better, a bit softer in the high freqs.

Have any of you mentioned the noise issue to library staff? All well and good telling us about it, but if the information is not passed on it's no use!

I did, they said when ever it's happening to just go and get them. It's hard for them to do anything about it though.

You you go and get them by the time they come the person will have stopped and another started. Then as soon as they are gone someone else starts.

ridiculous amount of noise in the new library, hardly ideal when we need to study for exams, this matter really needs to be addressed, so annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 966 ✭✭✭heffo500

Does it remind anyone else of premium level in Aviva Stadium?

I find myself wishing they could hand out penalties, one day bans or something. Make your card stop working for a set period of time.

I have been in the old library the last few days and it has been real quiet, but as soon as you go into the new library it is real noisy around the stairs and also you have the noise coming from the lobby. It is ridiculous the amount of people that gather and talk at the stairs. To be fair they are cracking down on the noise, so hopefully the students will cop on and stop chatting as soon as they go up the stairs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

It's a stupid design really that the place is so open, even if everybody on the upper levels is quiet there's still a bit of noise from downstairs. It's also a pity that they have all those lovely big computers downstairs but you can't use them to do any work cos of the noise, fairly pointless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

The new smell in the lobby as you come up the stairs is unwanted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

I like to hide behind the stairs and pretend I'm in Jurassic Park.
