Winter hiatus starts tonight....what will you do?

As most will know the US networks go into hiatus mode from tonight and over the next week to ten days. Many cable shows are ending also like Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, homeland etc.

So how will you fill the next few weeks?....personally i have a few shows saved up that i wanted to catch up on, and i'll bust out Fringe from a marathon session.

Though i think these hiatus are a blessing when one is busy with other stuff or just lazy about watching shows. So what shows do you plan to catch up on?

It's usually around this time that I dig out some new series to watch or catch up on ones I missed the first time around.

A break! Thank f*ck! I can't keep up with stuff!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭meoklmrk91

It annoys me, especially with the walking dead. But sure what can you do, another two weeks of homeland, think Dexter is on again next week, could be wrong though. I usually watch all the shows I have been neglecting, this year that is glee, revenge, American horror story, greys and private practice. I have also been getting back into the sopranos after finishing the first season this time last year and never continuing. Also want to start watching The Killing, it seems to have flown somewhat under the radar, but it's in AMC and it's gotten some very good reviews.

Be warned, Glee took an absolute nose-dive this year... The other half likes it so I've seen most of the series from episode 1 or so but, as bad as some of the earlier stuff was, this season has been awful...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

im gonna be bored ****less so, i have a bit to catch up on, but nowhere near enough to cover me through the break, might be a good time to start watching the shield, or maybe catch on on some good films ive missed out on,

have a few episodes of nikita, havent watched any of boardwalk empire yet or boss, so thats something to look forward to,

being unemployed is a dose, last year i had a ton of stuff backlogged

Boardwalk very much suits box-set watching. The plotlines can get quite convoluted so watching them back-to-back can help avoid some confusion.

Which is why it has been neglected, hate giving up on shows though. May have to be dropped we'll see

Plenty of stuff to catch up on, and plenty of video game to play as well. Got a Wii U, so will be playing that too.

    5GB patch........lol!

1 GB download, not 5 GB. Still painful though. :)

Have lots to catch up on. Been saving Boardwalk Empire, can't watch it week to week. Also going back over Criminal minds, onto season 5 now and will be starting West Wing again too, for the third time!

I'm a season behind on Homeland but getting through it fairly quickly. Same with Boss.
I have to pick then from Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire, Carnivale (for the tenth year running), The Wire, Underbelly and about 5 others I've not watched any of.

I ran out of space over a month ago and am loathe to ever delete anything so re-organising stuff should leave me with more than enough for the next 5 weeks or so. I'm a couple of seasons behind on other shows as well so am well set.

Thanks for the reminder, pickarooney, I've meant to check out Carnivale for years!

    Carnivale's great.

Band of Brothers is due for a rewatch - a great way to spend some of the cold nights.

    Oh that too!

I've a ton to watch and for once I won't have loads of college crap hanging over me for Christmas so should get a few marathons in. Still haven't gotten around to watching 24, tempted to try and get through the first season in one sitting when I do get on it.

At least 16 hours straight through.... good luck with that! :D

I'm going to finish off Luther, and I might try the Wire again (need to get more than half way through season 1 this time).

I also want to try Being Human (UK), Boardwalk Empire and Southland.

I've done 16 hours of TV in 24 hours before, never without a nap though. I'm out of practice for mammoth TV-watching sessions, I think it might be nearly time to get back into it.

EDIT: Hold on, am I reading this right, 2 of the 3 moderators of this forum have never seen The Wire? Good God.

Well, 1 at least, which is 1 too many!

    There are two remedies:

    a) Mr E is stripped of his rank and publicly humiliated at dawn.

    b) We kindly but strongly recommend the show to him like many surely have in the past, insisting that it is indeed worthy of the time commitment.

Option b) doesn't involve getting up at dawn, so yeah, let's go with that.

We could do dusk? Though I'm working. How does 7:30pm sound? :)
Ah I think he's punishing himself by not seeing The Wire.

I'm in the same boat as most others here. As Roy Walker would say - I'm playing catch up

Seen the first 2 seasons, but need to finish it.

I've a few shows I'm playing catch-up on over Christmas - including Peep Show (haven't seen an episode since maybe season 4), Love Hate (haven't seen a single episode) and Elementary (only watched the first 2 episodes).

Peep Show you'll fly through, it's just great. Surely there's better stuff than Love/Hate to watch. :pac:

Im thinking of watching it too from hearing good reviews from friends and all over the place really, but the thing is most of these people don't watch tv as serious as me so I can't help fearing they are comparing it to Fair City or Desperate Housewives.
Anyone on hear give it a good recommendation?

Anyway Ive a few episodes of The Walking Dead and Homeland to catch up on and have House S1-4 unopened so will probably bait through that. Might try pick up another cheap boxset before christmas if something catches my eye.

I've been thinking about watching Love/Hate as well but am afraid it might be a disappointment. I just remembered I have Justified to watch as well.

I'm one of those annoying friends who makes it a precondition of lending the Wire boxset that they watch up to episode 8 of season 1 - after that you're hooked, completely fluent in the language and know everybody's name...

I'll endeavour to make it that far, so. Thanks Poochie. :)

I never reached that point even after two whole seasons. I'm not sure if it's my concentration span or if the whole thing just doesn't appeal to me enough to care about the characters.

I've started rewatching The West Wing from the beginning so that'll be my main one but I've still not watched Season 2 of Game of Thrones and I've a season of Spartacus thats still unwatched so that should tide me over for a while. If I somehow end up looking for something else then I guess I could check out The Wire which I've never seen so much as an episode of :pac:

ah it wasn't Brutal, it was just predictable, and if anything more happens to
Liam ill freakin stab myself, jeez that boy attracts nothing but misery and crazy women, and wtf with Adrianna getting caught cheating again! has she ever not cheated on a guy with someone else?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,940 ✭✭✭Corkfeen

I'm actually delighted that the hiatus has begun. Between now and then I have far too much work to do, although I momentarily contemplated rewatching upon reading the topic. :pac: Arrow is still on til next week but I can comfortably focus on my work during the holidays. Normally, I would be irritated though...

I liked all the old faces/stalkers showing up...nice touch, and Naomi...as the crowd said....too little, too late love! ;)

    Though she's funny......:p

Love/Hate is definitely worth a look. I'd certainly watch it before The Mentalist. There's no more than 6 episodes per series so it's a quick fix.

Arrested Development and The Boondocks are going to get their annual viewing.

Still have The Wire and Lost boxsets to get through. I don't know if I'm ready for round 2 on either of those yet though. Gotta pump myself up for it.
