Beginners Metcon Thread

    I'm starting to take my fitness seriously now. To that end I'd be most obliged if you could suggest some Metcons for beginners.

    As a starting point I need to work on my cardiovascular fitness and basic strength.

    I'm not overweight in that I'm 5'8" or so and about 10 1/2 stone. However, muscle is lacking!

    I've made a couple of attempts at getting fit before but ultimately failed because I didn't stick with it. It will be different this time.

    I'm joining a gym that's literally a stone's throw away from work so I can go before or after work (I intend on going before). I've been to a personal trainer before, who was excellent, but I didn't have the perseverance to make it work.

    So back on topic, some metcons for beginners would be much appreciated.

    If you want to build muscle or get strong metcons won't be the answer...

    I appreciate that but I need to have a level of conditioning as well as trying to get stronger.

    One will blunt the gains of the other & you'll find you won't progress fast, if at all on either.take advice from someone who made that mistake, get ridiculously strong first then worry about conditioning!

    That's a good starting point.

    Metcons aren't a good way to start at your "starting point".

    You are trying too hard imo. Don't over complicate it.
    Right now you don't need improved conditioning or metcons. Let's keep it simple.

    Lets go back to your starting point;

    To improve strength, you need strength training.
    To improve CV fitness you need some cardio training.
    That's it.

    There's no need to try merge these into a single exercise in the name of conditioning. Just follow a basic linear strength routine, 2-3 days per week. And also some cardio training twice a week.

    There is a chance that guys who train ppl for living might know a bit more than you about what you need. Keep an open mind.
