Maybe as long as the console is not been taken away from a child that really wanted it.

In the early 80s i got my 1st ever console for xmas

    A Philips Videopac g7000

It then got sold 6 months later as the family was screwed to the wall with bills.

Only now near 30 years later i found a complete boxed and working Videopac and i will still have it 30 years from now.(Hopefully working)

Would never want to be the person that buys like that.

Only Nintendo gets me excited about games these days.I can wait.

Yeah with my backlog I just can't justify it at the minute. Have to pick up the nieces and nephews presents too next week. Plus I want to pick up a few 3DS games I want like NSMB2, Paper Mario, Kid Icarus and maybe Last Window: Secret of Cape West.

Bought it on day of release and might even take another trip into that fantastic game while i wait for the Wii U

I still have my preorder, and I could go get it now, but I think I'l just be wasting my money, since I'm sure I'l just trade it in soon. same as I did when the 3DS launched with that ridiculous price tag :pac:

IMHO this is a great console and I have a great feeling the community will get together here and embrace this great piece of kit!!!

Other consoles like ps vita I feel are massively overpriced for hardware and decent games. I reckon by end of 2013 we will have some cracking exclusives to play.

But you will presumably have interest in a slightly better graphically and slightly better Playstation or Xbox because that is the cutting edge of innovation isn't it.

was thinking of going gaming pc and wii u myself..

tbh anything you can play on xbox or ps can be played on the pc apart from a few exclusives. if i had a gaming pc i wouldnt have either xbox or ps3, i can see the vita and 3ds have value to a point but the gaming pc i would like..

get a go of a wii u when stores have a unit, you will be surprised tbh its a great system..

I don't even have a Wii, let alone a Wii U. Lucky you, OP.

The savvy thing to do is wait at least a year after a system has launched before deciding to purchase it. I would have rathered waited until this Christmas before I got the Vita just for the €200 deal that was on amazon last week. PC games are so cheap it's ridiculous, i bought that Humble Bundle deal the other day for 80 cent:)

So I don't have a Wii U. Where is the best place to get one? Seen Asda in Strabane has a basic model with Zombie U and Mario U for £330 / €410. Can't get up there though.

Whats the best offers then? Better to go online or head in store? Personally I'd like a bundle with at least 2 of Zombie U, Mario U and Nintenoland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭hdowney

I had to cancel my pre-order due to serious lack of fundage. I am also not getting my 3DS for Christmas due to the mother's serious lack of fundage so I am pretty bummed at the moment

I ordered my Premium pack from amazon.fr today and including delivery it came to 330 which was cheaper than anywhere in Ireland, the only disadvantage is its a 2 pin plug.

    I don't have one.
Will when the bonus comes in around April at the latest but waiting that long is gonna kill me. At least they should have sorted out any niggles by then but still....grrrrrr.

Just going to have to console myself with my gameboys, gba, micro, VirtualBoy, nes, snes, n64, gamecube, launch-day Wii, DS, DS lite, 3ds, 1978 Zaxxon tabletop with jimmied megadrive, dreamcast, pc and original game&watch.

    This sucks.

The only disadvantage is it's French, meaning it will probably smoke too much, strike regularly, and insist on retiring years before consoles from other countries.

For those of you that don't yet have a WiiU... fancy a little cry before lunch?

Last post here as i picked up one of those lovely machines this morning:eek:

Hard work to get the money together but i cannot wait to see my 9 year olds face on Xmas morning.

Best of luck to all who want this fabulous console

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,942 ✭✭✭stesaurus

Missed the launch as I was out of the country for the last 2 weeks. I wanted the Zombi-U Pack but seems to be sold out. Anybody got any options for me?
I want the premium but no interest in Nintendoland so what's the best deal I can go for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

I'm going to be in newry tomorrow... If I see a cheap one I might just go for it.

I don't have one, but I have to admit. I had my panties really wet about it. I wanted to get black ops 2 and wii u as my bedroom toy when I am not interested in what misses can offer!

So far I get mixed reviews. It looks like it was quite rushed. Long updates, abysmal pad battery life. Very long loadings, very choppy and bad ports of games even if hardware is superior to current consoles, lack of third party support again. The list of games that are multiplatfo and completely miss wii I is depressing.
With all those negatives I still want one :(. I am weak when it comes to gadgets and consoles. This time I will do a smart thing. I will wait a year and see what's the story. Plus I am way too busy with my steam backlog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

To be honest I think the Gamepad battery life isn't too bad, it's short but not outrageously bad. Think a lot of the criticism is overstated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 toadettee

Don't worry, I got mine about 2 weeks before Christmas was working fine until about a week ago where it froze and hasn't stopped, had to disconnect it from the Internet and that worked for a while but started freezing again tonight.... Word from Nintendo is their sending out a patch soon to fix it but not helping this minute!!! So be glad u don't have one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Bit sad really, think I will end up getting a PS4 before I get a Wii U, not that the launch titles are that impressive for the PS4, just my son has a vita now, and well used xbox/ps3 and he has no interest in a wii u. I cant justify buying a wii u just for myself. Actually, not a bit sad, very sad.

Might get an 8gb wii u. I dont see any big advantage in having a "whopping" 32gb when you can;t instal games and that's too little if you are downloading much.

This, Bayonetta 2 and Zelda games are what will make me get a Wii U. Bayonetta 2 is another 2014 release.

I was extremely tempted to pick up a Wii U yesterday. I saw the bundle with New Super Mario Bros U and Luigi U was only €299 as was the Zelda bundle. I had a voucher for €50. I had to walk out of the shop or else I'd have bought it. Would have been crazy as I have a PS4 pre-ordered.

But I so want to play that Mario game and the new one coming soon.

Mind my asking where you saw the New Super Mario Bros U/Luigi U bundle? The GameStop I checked in over the weekend, the staff had never heard of the bundle, and said their system didn't even list it as an upcoming product.

There's no reason you can't install games, third parties haven't done it is all.
If you plan to buy a lot of eShop games, the premium version gives you €5 of eshop money when you spend around 60 euro or so.
That offer expires next christmas I believe.

Worth noting, that eShop credit offer applies both to purchases from the eShop and the value of games on the eShop redeemed from eShop codes - eg. purchased from Game.co.uk or codes bought off eBay from console bundles.

Also, the amount elligible for consideration is based on the pre-VAT value of the game.

I got my Premium model but I don't think I read any documentation for it. Is there a code for the discount offer or is it automatic when it detects the Premium model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Think it's automatic as long as you created an account on it (you log into the Premium site with your Nintendo Network / WiiU Accoutn) but you may need to tie that account to your Club Nintendo account, not sure.

I bought mh3u which pushed me over the magic number, was enough to get MSF2 for nothing since I got the €5 code. Got points on that game too.

    Ah — thanks for that.

Hmm. I don't imagine there's any chance Smyths would accept GameStop gift cards as credit, is there? :D
