So, having a few hours to think about it, what did everyone think of the Direct? I have to be honest, I was slightly disappointed. I loved the look of pretty much everything there but there wasn't really anything surprising there. We already knew that Mario, MK and Smash Bros were going to be shown. We had already seen a small bit of Bayonetta 2 and X, although they both looked amazing. The only thing that hadn't already been announced was DK, which, while nice, looked similar enough to the previous game and wasn't really what I expected to be Retro's game.

I was honestly hoping for a new Metroid game and maybe a return from 1 or 2 of their other franchises like Star Fox or F Zero. I'm not really sure if there was enough there to convince people to buy a Wii U, especially when combined with no price cut and the new consoles arriving. MK not coming till Spring doesn't help either.

i was disappointed but not from what i seen but from the lack of surprises.

we knew about all the games except for donkey kong.

i expect abit more new titles for 2013

I wouldn't write off Mario 3d World. It was obviously disappointing it's not a Galaxy style game (they're my favourite of all time) but reading hands on impressions they've all found it pretty impressive and brilliant fun (plus I loved 3D Land). MK8 was slightly less so and it apparently felt very familiar but the tracks played are from the Mushroom Cup so the later cups might be better and more imaginative, as is usually the case. I'll definitely be getting both anyway.

It was the lack of surprises that definitely disappointed me, rather than the quality of the games shown.

While I am still very disappointed that we didn't get a Galaxy/Mario 64 style game, my smile is from ear to ear when I look at 3D World. Kuribo's....skate? lolololol

The gf is raving abouty the fact that she gets to play as Peach. And to be honest, I love playing Mario in multi-player :)

My only concern is that Nintendo have abandoned the Galaxy/64 style games for good :(

I found the whole thing a tad underwhelming. Some titles look great, Mario 3D world, Donkey Kong etc...it just all felt a little bit groundhog day

Although the Direct was underwhelming I was looking at what games I'm interested in getting on Wii U between now and the end of year. New Luigi U, Wonderful 101, Watch Dogs, Arkham Origins, Wind Waker, Super Mario 3D and maybe Rayman, Sonic and Donkey Kong Country Forever. :)

Didn't mention Pikmin 3 as plan on playing 2 first. Same with AC 4

Skip to about 45 secs for something funny/weird from Miyamoto.

I thought the Ninty conference was pretty solid in terms of games, X, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Donkey Kong and Bayonetta look great.

I am too a little disappointed about the direction of Mario 3D, and having read Nintendo's response to it, I feel they're not being as ambitious enough. Their response to an interview yesterday basically was that they wanted to concentrate on the multiplayer aspect of Mario 3D. I wish they'd drop they're little infatuation with multiple players onscreen at a time. It seems every Mario game now has to have this element.

However, I like that Nintendo have yet again given us the choice as gamers to play the games. With all the furore about DRM etc, it's good to be only worried about the direction of their games.

Keeping Zelda back I don't think is a bad thing if they have their own plans for it. It apparently was very, very near to be shown during the Direct.

My biggest disappointment from their direct was that the game they were keeping locked up as if it was a huge secret turned out to be another Donkey Kong 2D platformer.
2 years waiting for the reveal and I expected something more ambitious.

They said they chose DKC over Metroid. So does that mean someone else took Metroid or does it mean they'll do Metroid after?

From the impressions of those that have played Super Miaow... I mean Mario 3D World, it plays fantastically, and to paraphrase one piece, 3D land was like a balance of Mario 3 and Mario 64, this is more like between 3D Land and Galaxy

Just checked nintendo direct. Some really cool games like Bayonetta and that Meck game.

Its a shame no mentioning of Monster Hunter 4 though :(

I'm kinda there with you. I think I'm just downed by the fact there weren't any proper surprises, similar to what we've grown accustomed to with these Nintendo Directs and their 'and one more thing' endings.

Has any company ever talked about and previewed one game so much and so many times and for so long before its release? And I bet when it comes out they only actually buy about two advertising slots.

ha, "stability" aka plugging security holes/adding in a callback to auto-update.

Shiny new Wii U arrived this morning...late to the party, but at least I don't have to wait long for Pikmin and W101. :)

    Nland pack-in and NSMBU

I have both of those as well. Nland is grand for a while on your own but you really need a group to get the most out of it. NSMBU is probably my favourite of the NSMB series. I really enjoyed (and am currently playing through the Luigi dlc).

If you see them cheap, ZombiU is pretty good as well, although not for everyone, and Lego City is enjoyable and very funny, but it's pretty easy.

Having major problems getting online. Had to go through a whole rigmarole of connecting manually to access my wi-fi router...but now it connects to that but not the internet! Found a couple of proposed solutions online, but neither worked. Very disappointing as I really like the system, but this is unreal...will be going back if I dont get online in the next week.

I'm not into Lego games, but yeah, ZombiU looks interesting, but I think at this stage it would just invite comparisons with The Last of Us, which wont do it any favours.

That's definitely a possibility alright. I'd nearly describe it as a mix of Dark Souls (death and loss of supplies instead of souls) and TLOU, although with a bit more melee combat rather than sneaking and avoiding combat.
