The need for a baby sitter?
Or is that aimed at not wanting to play with some of us mere mortals :) ?

Hey Jeni, If he sets up an account (if he doesn't already have one) and registers his interest here, I think that's about the height of it.
All he needs to do is keep in touch, joining in on the forum isn't really a necessity but we probably won't talk to him if he doesn't :)

I'll be definitely trying to get out a few times with ye next year. Sounds like great craic according to ajcurry.Once nobody minds me escaping with the wooden spoon after every outing.

Usually played on one saturday every month once it gets going. Location changes everytime to ensure some people do not have to travel long distance everytime but it is normally kept fairly central.

Last Year some of the locations were The Heritage, Naas, Athlone, Mount Wolseley, Dundrum and Ballykisteen, Tipperary can't remember the rest atm.

Numbers were between 20-40 last year but would expect a significant increase in 2013

sounds good. not enough golf for me in 2012 but played last sunday and was plesantly surprised that i was striking as good as i had been before and only for a few stupid 3 putts I would have shot my handicap (13). It gave me the bug to play a bit more. off now to see if there is room on the time sheet for saturday :)

Its great that there is some new and renewed interest in the society. As always, the days out are good crack and there is always a bit of banter before and after the round. As said above, locations are picked to suit the majority and to try to keep travel times / distances down.

There is a thread regarding the Rules and Regulations of the society here, have a look at it when ye get a chance.

And its not just fellas who are welcome, we need a few more ladies.

    Just a thought lads!

I'm sure there'll be a good few of us in Dublin Kildare for the Irish Open. Would it be worth organizing something on one of the mornings to make a right day of it?

Not sure when the Open would tee off on the Saturday but I was thinking a round in Luttrellstown in the morning, bit of grub, pints and then the 20 min journey to Carton.

    Haven't thought it through much.
I'm sure clubs could be left in whatever course we play and a mini bus/taxi arranged to the Open if the cars are being left at home.
Castleknock could be an option too if people are intending on making a weekend of it too, might be able to get some deal on a nights B&B and a round.

There'll probably be a few lads up for the open anyway, so was thinking 2 birds n 1 stone and all that!

Nah you;d be better off playing golf after the open, tee off in ET events is normally early morning and finish about 3.00-3.30 so that weekend in June we'd be guaranteed 18 holes even teeing off at 5.30..............

Crap, was thinking Saturday, after the cut, would be starting at about 1 or 2 pm. Quantity of pints consumed may have to be adjusted so!

    postponed

    not adjusted :)

    postponed

    not adjusted :)

Postponed is too morbid a word for me.
There's something definite about a postponement, "postponed until a later date" comes to mind... we're talking a few hours here :)

I prefer the flexibility an adjustment gives me :D

Hoping to join in on this for the coming year. Am going to give my current society a miss as there are too many weekdays this year. I played in the matchplay a couple of years ago and that was great craic. Do I need to register my interest with someone on here ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭harry21

Not that I went to anylast year, but to answer the question we had an origianl sign up which Ipresume will be just before the first event.

After that it was opt in/out for each event via teamer.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,268 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

we use the teamer software to send out text for each event. We will be doing a clearout of names who haven't repled to the last few events and I'll get the details of the new members to add them in the next week or so.

As long as you enjoy the game you will be more than welcome. The guys and girls are all down to earth and everyone just enjoys the game. If you don't get out and play, how will you improve? You might even pick up a tip or 2. Not from myself as I can't even fix my own swing.

Very few of the regular players at the Boards outings last year were low handicap players. Most guys were in the 14-20 range so you have nothing to fear.

Nothing to fear going at all - that is what golf is about.

Look , there are good players on here - great players (I'm Johnny Giles now)

But I bet there will be a score in the 70s a score in the 80s a score in the 90s.

I would give evens on a score in the 60s or a score in the 100s. (please don't take bet). :p

Sure the whole idea of a handicap is to level the playing field for everyone!! Besides I'd say the average society handicap is around 18.

I'd also be up for this, started playing again last year after a few years away.

Want to get in plenty of practice this year
