Am surprised Liam Turner is getting so little game time and was not selected on the Leinster Academy despite being a senior cup winning captain and being talked up so much last year.

Schools cup players get talked up every year and doesnt mean that much for many.
And just because you captained a schools cup winning team doesnt mean you are necessarily anything near a professional contract/academy contract

Still quiet small will be intresting to see how he goes in AIL first and foremost if he goes well there then he has a chance but still unproven at big boy level and wouldn't be in the same space as Lamour was coming from school as an example

The spectre of Billy Dardis looms large.

He got a decent run against Ulster A.

Very few are usually selected to the academy straight out of school. I know Scott Penny and one other have been but most all of them spend a season or so in the sub academy.

David Hawkshaw has been talked up a lot more than Turner. He was Mr. Belvo for 3 years and played in 3 consecutive finals and he wasn't given an academy spot either. He's also in sub academy

Turner played an U20's match recently for Leinster.

Turner doesn't lack ambition or drive and is bulking up .

    One to watch imo

In fairness he's captain of the national 7s team so it hasn't exactly gone too badly for him rugby wise, still getting paid to play, travel the world and got a degree out of it, that's not bad going.

Not at all. He's done well enough, but for someone who was so highly touted as an 18 year old you can hardly say he's fulfilled his potential. Never made the cut in the 15's game.

Both Turner and Hawkshaw have 1 Celtic Cup appearance each so far for Leinster.

Both lack height/size for their position, although Turner's is a bigger concern at 5'8/5'9.

Both are obviously in the top tier talent wise for their age group, despite their size concerns.

pretty much this, Turner not in the same bracket as Larmour talent wise if they are similarly sized, also leinster have a lot of players in his position group in the academy at the moment so no need to rush him.

excellent schools player but his lack of elite athleticism/size held him back.

his brother has a better chance, if he can focus on rugby.

Wouldn't agree with that at all his problem was himself and his head to much to early and not mature enough to handle it. Head wasn't right and didn't have the drive or desire required. He is a fine athlete and decent size for his position and is showing that at 7s. He could possibly play 15s again in the future as a pro at a lower level than leinster if he had the desire to

He plays 9 at 7's, he isn't an top end explosive athlete and that was clear even at under-20 level.

To survive at his size at pro level you need Larmour levels of pace, explosiveness and agility along with a large amount of skill, Billy didn't have that.

Talking out your hole there. The reasons he didn't make it are nothing to do with his maturity, drive or desire and they're fairly well documented at this stage
