    Hi,

My son plays a lot of sport including hurling, gaelic football, soccer etc. He has badly twisted his right ankle a number of times in the last 18 months resulting in xrays, MRI's etc. Thankfully on each occasion there was no ligament damage and after refraining from sport for a period of time (6 weeks the first time, 12 weeks the latest time) to allow his ankle time to regain full movement he was able to return to playing sport but I'm concerned he may have a weakness in it and if he continues to go over on it he will permanently damage it.

A coach on one of his teams suggested it might be worth investing in a Cramer Ankle Brace in order to support and protect the ankle.

Had anyone here any experience of these? Are they suitable for a 12 year old? Where would I get one? Do they need to be custom fitted?

    Regards

    Ben

Has he had much physio or just refrained from sport? Sound like the injury might not have healed properly

I would get your child to a decent physio/sports therapist and ensure the injury has cleared up
they should be able to give exercises to strengthen the ankle and supporting ligaments/muscles etc
a strength and conditioning coach would also be able to give some simple bodyweight exercises to develop more strength and stability in the ankle/foot/knee
