Tonight Liverpool can qualify for the knock out stages of the Europa League if they beat Young Boys and Anzhi Makhachkala beat or draw with Udinese.
Brendan Rodgers indicated that he will pick a strong side but so far everyone seems to think the big guns will be on the bench rather than starting.

    Guardian guessed line ups
    Liverpool probable 4-2-3-1

Reina; Wisdom, Coates, Carragher, Downing; Henderson, Sahin; Cole, Suso, Assaidi; Shelvey.

    Young Boys probable 4-1-4-1

Wolfli; Sutter, Nef, Veskovac, Lecjaks; Zverotic; Zarate, Schneuwly, Farnerud, Nuzzolo; Bobadilla.

ITV4 are showing this but as far as I can tell no Irish channel is.

Probably some value in a draw or Young Boys win with that lineup.

We should still have enough about us to get it done, especially with the likes of Sterling and Suarez on the bench as game changers, but I'd prefer a slightly less risky first XI when we know a win should probably put us through.

    .

    7/2 Draw
    7/1 Young Boys Win

    I'm gonna go for Liverpool -1 goal @ 11/10

Echo saying Skrtel in for Coates

7/2 for a draw looks tasty.

It's on Setanta sports 1, presumably ITV4 is blocked.
Setanta Ireland have Newcastle and 3e have Spurs

How can ITV4 be blocked? It's not even recognised on the sky epg without the card trick. Oh wait, you mean on upc? Do they block even though it's a free to air channel?

Yeah UPC block it as ITV didn't buy the Irish rights. Anyone with Sky can watch it on the sky additional channels

If Anzhi win, then we only need to beat the Young Boys and we should progress.

Pacheco will be playing for the under-21's tomorrow and not tonight.

If Anzhi win, then we only need to beat the Young Boys and we should progress.

A draw will do for us to (in the Anzhi game), provided we win. It's a very nice position to be in considering we've lost 2 of our 4 games. we really should be qualifying tonight.

I find it funny that in the hours after the loss to Anzhi, Liverpool were described on BBC sport as being in 'precarious position' with their Europa League hopes 'hanging in the balance.'

Anyone who had studied the table could see we were still in an excellent position because of Udinese losing to Young Boys.

Now BBC's line is that we are in a 'strong position to qualify' yet nothing has changed!

Anzhi 2-0 up. Realistically, we only need to win here to go through.

If we won 5-3 with a very second string team in berne we should be able to beat them here with a stronger 2nd team with better players on the bench should things go tits up.

All that being said joe cole is playing so were effectively playing with ten men

Other than Joke Cole being in there, happy enough with that team.

No strikers, and Joe Cole. Why ffs? I can see Suarez being needed for us to score in the second half.

Interesting to see which Sahin & Jonjo show up tonight.

If both play to their strengths then this could be over by half time.

Shelvey up top should suit him as he won't need to chase back. 2-0, Joe Cole brace in the first ten minutes before he 'pulls his hamstring'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

I'd prefer if Coates was playing instead of one of the starting CBs. He needs games if he is to get any rhythm going at all.

I can't believe Brendan would unleash the Cockney Messi on young boys thats seems very harsh .

    Shelvey playing as striker.

Anzhi win so a win here and both are through with a game to spare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,933 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Wisdom needs to wake up, two bad errors in 60 seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

Suarez in the form of his life and he is on the bench.

Why would you play Shelvey up front with that option available?

Good stuff by Assiadi there, just pity we don't have a forward playing :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,117 ✭✭✭✭Leiva

It's a delight to see Sahin in his proper position.

If this keeps up like this it cold end up 10-10

Assaidi is as tricky as long division

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,933 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

This game won't be anywhere as easy as the bookies odds are suggesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,734 ✭✭✭Fowler87

Good enough for ya. Wont try that again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

It never was going to with that line-up. It's a risk.

Put Suarez in for Cole and suddenly we look like big favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,933 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Joe fuggin' Cole wrecked that move.

assaidi is not bad...he should just keep doing what hes doing.
a centre forward would be nice though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

Assaidi really must be a nightmare for a fullback.

Ca't understand how he hasn't been given a game in the Premier League, he looks to have so much about him
