The compact, along with that similar ugly Merc of the same era (can't remember the name) are some of the worst designs ever to come out of Germany.

They've basically continued the mistake until recently

Best driving hatch bar none though.

    Best driving hatch bar none.

I don't disagree but I'm not talking about how they drive.
    It's renowned for being ugly.

Is the Merc hatch still going? The 1-series is vile but I always like to drive them. So many of them are poverty spec ones though bought by people who couldn't afford them in the first place.

Personally I think it's a good looking car. It's better than most of the cars in its class in that regard.

I think a lot of the perceived ugliness is the fact that it's often only got a 1.6 and therefore shyte in every respect as a result to many.

I was wondering where you went.

Lots of new faces and usernames.

Lots of the old regulars seem to have disappeared too.

Would anyone else trust a Lada Nuclear submarine being made by Russia and used by the Chinese?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21930280
China is buying 24 Su-35 fighters and four Lada-class submarines

    Stumm ;)

Only in the original German, in English it would generally be written phoeetically as schtum!

Just booked my car into the body shop to get the rust on the rear arches of my car sorted. 500 squids. That would have gone a long way towards taxing it...or insuring it...or towards new wheels :(

The way I see it though, if that rust started to creep out from the arches and onto the bodywork, no matter what wheels/MSport kit etc I had on it, it would look like a complete heap.

Will try and get some before and after shots of her. She'll be done by Thursday week.

Theres a tiny bit of bubbling about half inch x half inch on the rear quarter panel of mine too :(

That sounds the exact same as mine. Unfortunately, its such a big panel that it costs €€€ to do right. Ah sure like, you're in no mad hurry. Mine has been more or less the same since I've owned it. Only getting around to it now.

Enjoy her for now! And worry about the niggles a bit later.
