Has anyone tried Ingress yet.

It looks really interesting and I'm currently awaiting for an activation code. You can sign up for an invite here.

I'm wondering if any Irish heads have gotten an invitation yet because, at the moment, I'm wondering if it's even active in Ireland.

Signed up as well a few days ago and haven't heard anything. we probably won't get it for ages

OK, I just received an invite 5 mins after posting this thread.

There was a code in the email but when I opened the app it auto logged in. I'm going to try and activate some portals to confim it's working and then share the invite code to see if it's a shareable one.

(hmm: it seems I need to keep an eye on my GPS to navigate towards the portal. It doesn't show it on the map. I'm charging the phone right now so when I get a bit of power I might head out)

Just got in yesterday. Took awhile to figure out but it looks like you have to take a picture of something important (like a statue or historic building or whatever) with the location info turned on and share it with the app to get new portals added to the map.

You're dead right. I just tried adding one of Thomand Park. It's a picture form the inside of the grounds so I don't know if it will be accepted given that it doesn't show the external structure. But I just wanted to see if I'd get any sort of response for a submission.

It'd be hilarious if the portal was in the middle of the pitch and only a few could access it.

From looking at the communications in the app it looks as though things are kicking off in Dublin.

Plenty of activity around Grand Canal!

That would be pretty fun with Thomand park, although if you look at the Molly Malone statue in Dublin there's three or four portals for it.. I submitted two earlier so we'll see how that goes.

yeah, probably wont sign up myself as i wont use it that much.

Yeah, there's plenty of portals around Dublin city centre, a few in cork and one or two in each city around the country. The Enlightened have control of most of Dublin at the moment

Add as many as you can now. When you have the app installed the NIA Super Ops is installed as a sharing option in Gallery. Just take loads of pictures as you wander around and upload them when you're home.

Try to make sure that your camera has GPS locked on, I've taken a few photos and the location is waaaaaaaaaay off when I checked later.

Hmm, I shall wait in hope. It looks quite cool, for a tool that's sole purpose is to trick us into gathering street level, GPS tagged pictures of landmarks and points of interest for mighty lord Google.

Think I read somewhere that it registers open wifi networks while you're using it out and about. For science. Don't be evil, right?

Just saw some portals have pooped up in university of limerick and have been claimed by enlightened. I also see my portal has been added for thomand park but hasn't been claimed yet. So if someone wants to get things moving in limerick city it's there to be taken

Also, just logged into the app and the female voice said "it's been x days and x hours since you logged in. I thought you were beginning to not like me"

I got an invite a few days ago, no portals in Waterford city yet so for the moment im playing the fun game of submitting every place i can think of.

the closest portals are around 15 miles away but some leprechaun has control over them, im gonna go for a drive tomorrow and see what damage i can do to them

seems to be the same situation im in up in Galway, theres just green portals owned by one user but at least there is 7 of them there and they are all pretty close together in the city center. it might be a good idea to download the app and start submitting places if you havnt already, because it takes around 4-6 weeks for them to get approved so by the time you get an invite there might be a decent number of portals to use

So you're around 15 miles from Bunmahon then I look forward to repairing the damage the next time Im back home!! If I had keys to those portals I'd recharge them to make your life difficult!!

I'm finding it very difficult to gain AP these days.. I haven't been overly active since I joined so I'm only 1/2 way to level 2. Do you still get AP from hacking portals since the last update?

You get 100 AP for hacking enemy portals and you may or may not get items. You will also get attacked for some XM by the portal. You get no AP for attacking friendly portals but you are pretty much guaranteed to get a few items. You also get AP for destroying enemy resonators, claiming portals, placing resonators, building links and creating fields.

Placing a resonator 125 AP
Destroying a resonator 75 AP
Placing the first resonator on a portal 500 AP
Placing the eighth resonator on a portal 250 AP
LINKS:
Creating a link 313 AP
Destroying a link 187 AP
FIELDS:
Creating a control field 1250 AP
Destroying a control field 750 AP
OTHER:
Applying a portal shield 150 AP
Hacking an enemy portal 100 AP

I work and live in South Dub CC which used to be covered in Enlightened and over Christmas changed to a Resistance stronghold. Unfortunately at level 1 the only thing I seem to be able to do that increases my AP is hack enemy portals. At 100AP a pop I need to hit about 50 more!
