Events are starting to be held around the world to promote gender equality and make the world a better place for both sexes to live in.

One such event is in Swords on the 10th February, and the big event is on in Stephen's green on 14th February, Valentines day. It's not about calling men the enemy and women the victims, it's about standing together as both genders and working well together on an issue that is effecting a lot of people.

Please go and get the word out. We can make the world a better place.

mod: And and all sexist posts / jokes etc. will result in cards or bans.

    Please report any posts.

    What's this about? Rape?

Rapists don't care what women think, that's the point.

    The easy replies.
The harder reply...is to stick your neck out of the sand, and say maybe things actually need to change.

Well, I suppose if yous all get your house work done then go for it just don't expect to many men to be there, they will be out winning the bread so yous can go to the salon, get make up etc to look pretty for us. its not like there are bigger problems in the world.

Yes now you buy the chocolates and flowers for the man. In return we will give you oral sex later if you are not too drunk and smelly.

ONE BILLION WOMEN VIOLATED IS AN ATROCITY

I for one fully support this initiative and believe firmly in equality. If it was up to me, I'd even let them vote.

Sigh, the ironic thing here is these kind of posts even as jokes prove my point. If you think about it a little deeper, can you see it? The thing to think about is - has current society conditioned you to reply like this...

"ONE BILLION WOMEN DANCING IS A REVOLUTION"
    Yeah, on a pole maybe..then it's several revolutions :D

In all seriousness... I'm all for equality and all that, but one billion rising seems to be more of an anti rape event..which is good too, but I think they're tackling it the wrong way.

Inequality isn't the cause of rape, now go make me a sandwich!

    ...what?.....fine, Please?

I am just more concerned about the thousands of women and children that starve to death every day than about some jumped up bra burners that imagine there is a problem.

Start your own day then. There can be seperate days tackling different things. You can't deny violence and assault against women is extremely prominent right now, look at the last few months and the amount of cases been presented to us, it is an issue that needs to be tackled.

Th point I'm making about it being a day for both genders is that it wants both genders to go along and promote the end of violence against women.

See, this isn't about equality, it's about rape. They are completely different issues and disguising rape as sexism IS calling men the enemy and women the victims.

    Good question :).

    Biggest Audience on Boards.

And also - I've found with human rights awareness, (which I volunteer in in real life) - the most important place to post a message is in a place where you're going to get criticism and mocked, because these are the people that could most benefit and change a society from the spark of the message.

Amongst all the make me a sammich bravado jokes, some-one might think jesus all the stuff going on is actually shocking - Cathering Gowing, Aoife Phelan, Jill Meagher, three prominent cases in a very short space of time, all the numerous sexual assault, rape cases in Ireland recently, all the controversy surrounding the judge in Ireland handing out fines/not custodial sentences for women being physically and sexually assaulted, they might go away thinking something about it - that other human beings are suffering and they can help change.

Calling a guy who said something decent 'Oh look a white knight' - which is a pick up artist term belittling any man trying to be nice, and saying to me 'go shave' - I think tells the audience all they could ever need to know about you right there.

Genuine Question. Why can there be a seperate day tackling every kind of issue you think is prominently effecting men? I would go to it.

Exactly, I'm all for gender equality, and completely against rape, but don't disguise one issue as another.

That would be the unoffical Garda view of offences against women , explains our low prosecution and conviction rate, then you have ex Garda Nolan treating sex assault victims as unpaid whores!

Can I ask what is your opinion on all the stories of rape, assault and murder of women in the media currently. Any opinion?

I'm just referring to these cases as they are prominent and everyone will have heard of them so are relevant to discuss.

Yes sure, I think they're absolutely awful, I think the people who carry out these atrocities should be shot. I'm totally against rape.

But don't disguise rape as an equality issue. It's a separate issue.
Every negative response you have received on this thread is regarding sexism, not rape.

Maybe if you titled the thread "Anti-Rape Protest" or something along them lines, you wouldn't have gotten as many b*llsh*t replies.
