Self depreciating humor is nothing new. Are you actually offended by it or are you just offended by the audience he happens to be performing in front of?

If he was taking the piss out of another country, would you have started a thread? You should try having a sense a humour.

Is it not the fact they are irish themselves and know the irish humour?
    Terry Wogan is king.

Most comedians take the piss out of the country they come from or the city they are from...nothing new there.

Is it worth putting up a poll so people can bet on whether this is a huge over reaction or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

In the immortal words of the late 'racist' comedian Bernard Manning, 'Always remember that it's only a joke, don't look for something that's not there.'

Could someone offer a rough idea of what he said?

you can't watch BBC player here without spoofing a UK IP, that is, pretending to be from the UK.

it's called humour, which inevitably offends someone. Especially those with no sense of it.

Anyway, I bet it's nowhere near as scathing as some of the things I can imagine stand up comedians in Bengaluru must be saying about the Irish since we allowed a young Kannadiga woman to die unnecessarily just because of one of our quainter superstitions. :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Topper Harley

I've seen a few of his shows (not sure if I've seen the one the OP is talking about) and he takes the piss out of us along with the Brits and everyone else not to mention himself.

One that comes to mind is about all Irish people abroad writing "IRELAND" In caps on letters home.

But he never shies away from his Irishness and includes it in his act.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭Sound of Silence

I'm not offended by the topic. I'm offended by the quality of the jokes.

If you want a true master of Irish self deprecation, there's only one.

    Yeah they reacted very badly.
They just announced Independance, are leaving the UK as a result and closing the border now.

Yer man is stuck there with them english snakes for ever.
    "NNOoooooooooooo !!!!!!!"

I'd rather have Dara O'Briain taking the piss out of Ireland than that yank wanker Des Bishop.
Unfunny cock has made a career from telling Irish audiences that Irish people are stupid.
