    Enjoy,

Another €20 off if you're switching from another network. Excellent deal i doubt you'll find a more capable phone at this price

It's a savage deal alright. They dropped the price just over a week ago. I wonder is the phone any good? I've heard some good & bad stories about it...

For the price its a great buy. It dropped due to launch of the newer windows 8, which this is just 7.8 but no major issue to most.

This is €150 on meteor in black and white

I see you're a Mod. on Mobiles & PDAs etc so I take you're word for it that it's a good phone, good to know. I was in two minds between this phone and the HTC Desire X, but the desire x is about 60 euro dearer!

Well it always boils down to personal taste, some people love iPhones, while some hate them. I paid over €200 for this phone and still think it was worth it.

Just waiting for this to drop in price on three...

It's on Amazon for £160 sterling, about €200 but still cheaper than €450 on three and unlocked (I think!).

Aye, it's for sale pretty cheap in most places.

My phone is slowing dying, once a month it wont work for about a day. So trying to decide if I should spend big on something like HTC 8X, or spend relatively small and get a lumia...still undecided, and 200 goes a long way!

Windows phone o.s. is very nice to use. If your an app-junkie, it's probably not the phone for you, as Windows store doesn't compare to ios or android selection-wise, but still you'll find the majority of the most 'popular' apps. Depends what you're looking for from a phone really

I'm on Three as well waiting for this to drop. Does anyone know when or if Three will drop the price, it's stupid that you can buy them sim-free for €200 but three are still charging €450

For the love of god yet another "bargain" purchased that I had no need for! I can confirm yes went through Fatcheese and my bill to VF was € 149.99 and got instant email afterwards from Fatcheese confirming I'm due € 20 from them, so net € 129.99. Was holding out for Lumia 920 but this is a cheaper way to see if I like Windows Mobile (albeit an older version) first!

Asked about this in my local Vodafone shop today. The assistant tried to steer me to the €99 Lumia 610. He said that the 800 gave problems and that there was a good reason why it has dropped in price.

Sounds like the assistant was talking out their arse imo.

I had no luck getting one unlocked, I went to several different unlocking shops and none of them could do it.

Think there was reports of unlocked ones being sold from Carphone Warehouse when they originally went cheap on O2.

Yeah I got it by moving a number across. Sure isn't it dirt cheap (if not free?) to get a sim card for any network and then just port that number across? I had a Three number spare from buying that cheap Galaxy Europa before. I logged into Fatcheese, clicked on "Get Cashback" to link to the Vodafone site, ordered phone (€ 149) using same email address as Fatchese account and a few minutes later got an email from Fatcheese noting the transaction.

Can these phones not be unlocked like all other phones when the code from Vodafone is used? I used to get the code off Vodafone and it works with other phones, I assume this phone is the same..

If I could figure out how to unlock it without spending 130 euro on PAYG may get one.

The alternative is 45-55 euro to some unlock sites site 1 or site 2.

I got one from 02 had some minor problem with the display, it showed shadow lines on white background and black text. Easily seen in Office 360 or zooming text in web pages. Returned it and got one from amazon. This one had the above problem plus there was a drag while scrolling, I think the refresh rate was very poor. Also the amazon had a standard black charger, O2 had cool white one very small. As it had uk firmware there was no ease of access under settings. The feature that I missed was the text to speech for contact names. When phone rings it calls out the name (good while driving, don't have to look). I am going to send this one back as well. I doubt (the cheaper ones have a poor display) will confirm that when I get another replacement from amazon. May be I am asking too much for a phone reduced by E250+

Has anyone used that site. I've used fastgsm but they've removed all their Irish 800 unlocks.

I'm with vodafone but have an older sim from another network. If I port this older number to get the discounts, can I then use my vodafone sim in the phone ? ie. is the phone sim locked or vodafone locked ?

I had one WinPhone mobile and I wouldn't command to anyone - closed platform, shop without lot of iphone/android hits, no memory extension, and for this one (lumia 800) - no further develop of system. State it like - would you buy laptop with XP if you can't change it into Vista/Win7/Win8? Even if XP is still decent system, would you go into deal like that?

    What a ridiculous statement.

This phone is ridiculously cheap for what it is. You simply cannot compare it to a laptop/pc operating system. After using Windows Phone 7 for over a year it is a great OS. Very fast, intuitive and stable. App support is crap, but some people don't need or want many apps. For 150/160 this phone is a steal.

How much is the cheapest Windows 8 device at the minute? Twice the price? Good luck with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭mexicanking

Having used IOS and android, I can say that Windows phone OS is very good. The first thing you will notice is that its different, easy to use. I never seen it crash with so many apps running and is always fast. I found any apps that I needed but its less very few Irish apps. If you just take it for the price of a satnav its really cheap. A Garmin will cost the same as this phone but u will have to keep updating maps each year. Nokia gives offline navigation for free (maps in Garmin Navteq is owned by nokia). It is as fast or even better on the satellite reception, in a count of 5 it will locate you. Office built in, one note I use a lot, sky drive. Any photo taken is automatically synced with skydrive. And if you windows 8 it integrates even better. With 7.8 update it will be total facelift. Nokia is trying its best to give apps for it 7.5 os as its releasing cheaper phones. I would recommend the OS even with few apps (100k). Nokia music you can stream unlimited music on this phone. U wont get that even on spotify. I really liked the phone apart form its display (hoping its a manufacturing defect)

Its €150 with meteor and its such a nice phone, the OS is really fast and its getting the 7.8 update really soon. If you are a student you can get developer mode unlocked for free and design your own apps.

That shows how desperate Microsoft is to motivate people to program for that platform. If you any familiar with app programming market you should know how hard is to find anyone familiar with .Net. Windows Mobile came just too late - after big success of Apple and small of Android they want to get of that pie too.

And answer for Alanstrainor - you probably are using Optimus7 we both bought in May 2011. Your is fine - good for you. Mine got broken almost year ago and now I fight with Germans to get my money back instead of sending it for repair for third time. No more LG mobils anymore. And talking about Windows on this machine - the only good thing about it was MFG registry access which is in fact accessible only on LG devices.

This phone is 169.99 in Bricks and mortar shops too, so for anyone like me who does not want to buy from the Vodafone website you can just drop into a shop. I have had so many problems buying phones on their website for the last few years its a joke and when you phone up to find out what the problem is, they just tell you "oh, we are updating our website"....that excuse has been used for the last 5 years and as for the "ERROR" pages that keep coming up in the process of buying or registering a phone---ok rant over...lol...:D

There the ones down the street from you, you've probably passed them before there the ones with phones in the window. Might be a big Vodafone or Meteor sign outside giving the game away, there in most town & cities in the country, it's where people who don't buy their phones off the interent buy their phones.

No, Huge difference between the 800 and the 610.
Google a few 610 reviews if you want, but trust me the 610 is a piece of ****e.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

    Thats a bit harsh.

I think the 800 is much a better deal. The 610 is closer to a 70~80 phone tbh. That said I think it will run rings round any android or S40 phone at that price. It feels a lot faster/responsive than my stock Huawei G300. O2 have the 610 at 189 which is obscene. Its a pity the camera isn't better on the 610 though.
