Not hearing much about this?? What are peoples thoughts on it??

I see him getting stopped myself, but it would be great if he pulled it off!!

Wow, he's actually fighting a legitimate, ranked contender this time.
Stoppage win for Fortuna I reckon.

Wow thats a big jump in both quality of opponent and exposure tbh i see him loseing ths one however who knows he hasnt fought any top fighters so maybe he can raise his game when in a fight like this anyways hope he wins but i wont get my hopes up

As an Irishman I hope he does ok, but its impossible to see Hyland getting any sort of result here. Or it even being close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭crackit

He's going to pay the price for not having fought a genuinely live opponent for his entire career.

That a 10 year past his peak and 37 year old Archuleta and a 34 year old Lucero who had lost 5 of his last 7, and 4 on the bounce since, are the highlights of a 27 fight, 8 year career sums it all up.

He's not a contender. He's a sacrificial lamb and he's going to get smashed to pieces. And despite him being Irish and having the tendency to root for my own I actually don't care. He should have rolled the dice long ago but he hadn't the guts to actually do it.

Hard to argue with most of that except the last two sentences. Has Pajo refused big fights in the past or something? I've been a critic of his standard of opponents but thought it was mostly down to poor promotion. Unlike yourself, I'll definitely be cheering him on Saturday.

He's not a genuine contender though. He has just taken cosy little nothing fights against nobodies his entire career. I'd be critical of any boxer from any country doing that so it would be hypocritical of me to sing a different tune just because there is an Irishman involved.

If he'd wanted better fights he could have genuinely gone on the road a la Magee. You don't need massive promotion to put your hand up to go on the road and fight better calibre opponents. His idea of going on the road was a jaunt to america to fight a 10-28-2 Mexican petrol pump attendant. Also he's only fought three times in the UK. Loads of good opportunities to improve over there.

That he's fighting in such a high profile card for a decent interim title and it's only warranted 6 replies on an Irish message board says it all for me really. I don't begrudge anyone following him. He's just done nothing to deserve what he's got.

good point. here is a bit on fortuna (http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=494223&cat=boxer) so:

TKO in 2nd - 10.18 - even if Cruz is average, it's good. see also 6.00, shouldnt have counted.

    TKO 1st vs Evans

    here's hyland vs frankie archuleta

just watched 2 rounds, even that miss at 21.41, just a lazy/slow left-right, he would be hammered with Fortuna's left.

2 different styles here, one quick one not. but still hopes PH makes a good showing.

That's what I was thinking myself. Fortuna looks far too slick/powerful for Hyand.

The market says it all really. Fortuna best price 1/14. Hyland best price 9/1. The round betting will be best value, Fortuna is 11/2(rd1) 11/2(rd2) and 6/1(rd3). Seeing as I can't see this going past the 3rd round I might just do these individually or rounds 1-3 is 7/4.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I think I might pile into round 2 and 3 though. I can see Fortuna eyeing him up for a round then blasting him out of there.

Finally Pajo fights a live boxer. Hope he does well. Can't see him winning here. Fortuna is an explosive and talented fighter. He should have too much in the arsenal for Hyland.

Hard to give Hyland a hope here, but good luck to him

Mixed feelings about this one. Bit of a shocker that what should be a high profile fight is very much under the radar. Whatever about the quality of Hyland I fear that his inexperience at this level more than anything will leave him wanting. At some stage he had to make a step up but this is a MASSIVE step up from anything even close to where he has competed before.

Lads what time are we talking about for this fight? will I be able to get an hours kip in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

First round down. Lots of posturing by Fortuna, Hyland throwing ineffective punches coming up well short. Fortuna looks quick and dangerous. Will probbaly catch Hyland soon and it'll probably be a looping left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,741 ✭✭✭bigron2109

First two rounds to Fortuna. Fortuna is dedicating the pace and hitting some body shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

Fortuna spent the 3rd round fighting EXACTLY like Sergio Martinez. They have the same trainer so he's obviously trying to copy Maravilla. Hyland showing a decent beard.

Hotting up at the end of round 4. So far its all been Fortuna for me.

He looks explosive, and at any time, he looks like he is ready to explode with some combinations and Knock Hyland out. Hyland needs to loosen up at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

Annoying Primetime promoter asks McCullough if Fortuna's style is reminiscent of anyone....McCullough fails to mention Martinez. Does he even watch boxing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭getuponthis

Hyland has a good chin and good defence but doesn't really offer much going forward. fortuna will take this on points I reckon

Hyland getting to Fortuna a bit. Fortuna can't keep him off with his feather fists....wouldn't be surprised if Hyland wears him down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭crackit

Fortuna is rubbish tonight but he won't lose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,741 ✭✭✭bigron2109

Couple of decents right hands by Hyland. Fortuna is cut too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

Fortuna hasn't got an ounce of power left in his shots....Hyland has 2 rounds to break him down. Not impossible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭crackit

Best performance of his career by Hyland and he's still going to lose by miles. 118-110 written all over this. But sure don't the paddys love a moral victory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭geurrp the yard

115-113 by one of the judges. Jaysus, I wonder is this a sign of whats coming later on.

good performance by Hyland, just a pity he didnt throw a bit more caution to the wind in the last few rounds and let the punches off when he did manage to get within range.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭bellybuster12

Really is a pitty Hyland didn't throw more. It looked like when he opened up that he was stopping Fortuna in his tracks. After the 5/6th rounds Fortuna was looking feather fisted, Patrick was never in trouble.

When looks back at the fight he will be a little disappointed that he didn't go for it a bit more in the second half. He was always going to be cautious as this was his first real fight. This fight could be a turning point for him and he and his team will realise that he is not a million miles away from the higher level.

Best of luck to him in the future.

It seems Hyland earned $15k more than Fortuna for that fight.
