I don't think that is the case. For the vast majority of folks they see us as promoting sensible parking

Wrong. Clampers are one of the most hated professions out there. I'd struggle to think of another job I'd have more disdain for.

Its a legal, mandated service unlike the other kind of cowboys.

Do you ever clamp AGS cars and have you ever accidental clamped an undercover car? If so what was the outcome?

(it happened here yesterday and the clamper refused to release the cop car and they had to pay him, why the didn't just arrest him I don't know)

Clampers, Driving business out of inner cities and towns for years. Congratulations. By the way driving 16 years and never been clamped in case you think I'm bitter. I just avoid going into the city altogether.

OP just edited their post, they're now saying that they're private. I've always wondered about that one myself, though.

Why did you say private and then change your answer.

for all I know you're probably a troll but here goes anyway.
How minutes grace do you give a victim before you pounce on them?
Roughly now? I presume on a quiet day it would be about a millisecond.

How many times have you been physically threatened doing your job?

Note: I hate clampers, especially after my run ins with them. But some are still vaguely human ;)

Park by the rules and you won't have a problem. I would say its unfriendly traffic plans taking cars out of the city. Council choice

Do you have targets that you clamp multiple times?Does it make a difference to be nice?
If a clamp goes to appeal, and is successful,is there any comeback on you?

So even when you have time off work you have a Q&A session about clamping. 'nuff said. Clampers are a special breed. You are not a clamper, go away!

I love clampers, for the simple reason above. I do however despise obnoxious parking, some people think the rules don't apply to them, and then complain when said rules are enforced.

I was clamped once, erroneously, by dublin city council, they removed the clamp free of charge. Other than that, the only people I know who we're clamped had deserved it through breaking clearly stated rules.

If you are liable to pay for your parking spot and don't then you are subject to the clamp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭mullingar

    OK, Mr Clamper.

If someone got clamped on private property, is there any legal jargon/legislation reference that will require you to remove the clamp?

It is in a very legal grey area as you are illegally tampering with a motor vehicle which is a legal no-no

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 866 ✭✭✭renofan

You're VERY selective in your answers and at that your answers could be written by a five year old. Don't know what you're playing at but I smell a rat.

Are emergency service vehicles liable for paid parking though?

Well clamping on a private place isn't strictly legal.

I was clamped once, erroneously, by dublin city council, they removed the clamp free of charge. Other than that, the only people I know who we're clamped had deserved it through breaking clearly stated rules.

Rules are one thing - common sense is another.
First time - Finish work at 4am, into apartment for a sleep, return to van at 8.30am, already clamped. This is on North Anne St, legally and safely parked in a proper parking space but obviously without a ticket.

Second time - Parked in a loading bay on Castleforbes Road, doing a delivery. Took probably 15 minutes due to waiting for delivery to be checked and dockets to be signed etc. Clamped. IMO that one was just opportunism - nobody at the van, clamp it fast and get out of Dodge. Commission earned.

In both cases I may as well have been beating my head off the wall as trying to appeal it.
(In the first instance I left the van there until about 1 o clock until I actually had to use it - might as well get my moneys worth!!)

Cork City Council have scrapped clamping altogether. It wasn't cost effective and caused more hassle and obstructions than it cured. Now they'll have a car lifted and fined if it's causing an obstruction and fined if it's parked without a valid ticket. That's called common sense.

EDIT: (Forgot to ask a question..) Do any of your work colleagues use common sense or have you ever met one that does? Or is it all about the commission...

If your company is so confident that they never clamp in the wrong, why must someone pay a ridiculous fee to appeal this, and why is there no independent body to examine such?
There are admin costs for an appeal. I have no idea why there is not an independent body - who do you think would set this up and pay for it ???

Have you removed a clamp from someone in distress? We all heard the stories, heavily pregnant woman with a child and sick mother, parked her car for 5 minutes without permit, car clamped and clamper won't remove the clamp.
I know everyone has an excuse, but is the whole "NEVER remove a clamp" drilled into you in clamp college?

I can answer that one. When I used to do the clamping it was in my contract that the only people who could authorise a removal was one of my bosses.
If I decided to remove the clamp without pay,the fee would be removed from my wages the next week

By the way clamping companies are just money hungry scumbags worst thing I have ever done in my life.

My god, I was not aware of this at all.

It would be a bad person to commit such a heinous act.

My question is, if a clamp is put on my car, and while I'm in the process of removing said clamp, the car falls off a jack and onto my head, can I sue the clamping company?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,468 ✭✭✭✭OldNotWIse
