Peugeot 308 HDI 90 HP

Sis rang me her HDI was smoking from the engine and making a clicking noise which actually was a hissing noise.

When I looked at it it seemed the smoke and pressure was coming from the far left injector and it looked a bit leaky.

DO these HDI's give much trouble ? she has 60 K miles on it and no problems since she got it with 15K miles.

Still I've never had an injector go in over 350K miles of diesel driving. Is it a symptom of the high pressures of common rail injection ?

What would be the costs of a repair like this ? doesn't look serious.

Told her she should have got a prius ! lol

    Is it the 1.6 hdi?

Awful engine. Turbo problems, injector problems, dpf problems, ecu, fuel pumps, leaks oil like a sieve. Google it masses of threads about it on various forums.

And yes I also have that engine

The injector seal on that injector has failed, this is a common enough fault on the 1.6 hdi engine.
You'll have to clean around the injector, remove it,clean the carbon buildup and fit a new seal....most garages replace all four seals but you might get away with giving the other 3 a nip..:)

Injector seal is No 7 in the diagram

    Cheers lads, That's great info.

She will be pleased to know it's nothing serious. She is dropping it in to the garage tomorrow. Nice to have some knowledge first.

Btw the seal(s) in a ford garage are cheaper...;)
Peugeot charge around €10 per seal and you should get all four for a tenner from ford...:)
Labour will be the most expensive side of this job as it takes alot of time and cleaning before the new seals are fitted...Have alook at Nissan doctor's "how to guide"...

    How much?

I have had to do this twice. 10quid in parts but 4 hours labour.

Make sure they do the job correctly the 1st time otherwise it will need to be done again.

    Thanks for the update...;)
Was it a main dealer that replaced the injector seals...?

A main dealer would have been 70 euro an hour or more
