Since a 3-1 victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's kids 17 years ago, Villa have crumbled when United visit. Paul Lambert's revolution is making slow but steady progress, his young side's three-match unbeaten run putting a relatively comfortable four-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone. Villa are boosted by the return after suspension of Karim El Ahmadi, whose crisp passing has brought some vital composure to an otherwise inexperienced midfield; Villa have held the majority of possession on only two occasions this season. The hosts will need significantly higher ball retention than in recent weeks if they are to stunt a visiting side that seem to be steadily growing in confidence as the season progresses. United have won four successive league games since the shock 3-2 defeat by Tottenham, and with a relatively straight forward run of games until the Manchester derby in early December, Ferguson will be keen to ensure his team do not drop points against sides as depleted as Villa. Didn't Villa beat united at OT maybe 3 years ago 1-0 with a goal from Agbonlahor?

I'm going for a 4-1 win for United.Benteke will give our defence a few problems with his size but we've too much firepower for them to cope.

Few seasons back Villa were up 2 nil against Utd at Villa Park, played very well that day,Utd got late goals from Macheda and Vidic to rescue a point.I think Utd will have too much firepower today and should win 2 or 3-1

Enda Stevens is my cousin's cousin and we got a text this morning that he was set to start for Villa against United and to keep an eye out for him

    Probably replacing bennett at Left-Back

A massive game today. If we can get three points it will heap massive pressure on both City and Chelsea who both have tricky games tomorrow. I can see it being tough but ultimately we should have to much firepower for Villa.

united to win by at least two, villa are woeful.

I hate going to Villa Park. I know villa are not in great form but it always ,makes me nervous. After european games we are usually a littl sluggish too. Fergie will put out a strong team, possibly Scholes starting as well.

Carrick and Scholes as a partnership is well past it's sell by date.

Lets hope Villa are as **** as they seem.

Really think Anderson deserved to start this game :(

Guess I'll be the token Villa fan here to take all the abuse:p Very attacking line up from Lambert with Ireland, Gabby, Benteke and Weimann all starting. Bannon also isn't well known for his defending skills. That leaves Westwood in the defensive mid role (big call with Delph and El A available) and also Stevens in at the deepend

Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Stevens, Westwood, Bannan, Ireland, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Benteke.

Subs: Given, Albrighton, Holman, Delph, El Ahmadi, Bowery, Williams.

Still, maybe, if we're going for it there's hope. Might as well go for the 'we'll try score more than you!' rather than 'try and contain you' approach against Utd!

I'll hold the forth with ya :pac:

But ya very attacking lineup, Weimann is a strange one unless Gabby is back on the wing again. Thought Delph would be in there today. Looking forward to see how Westwood does.

Carrick & Schloes will rip these apart imo with their passing.

United with a win by at least 2 I'd say

Not much energy but if they are given space they will run the game. I really hope they are given space.

Isn't this where Hernandez and Jenas both picked up injuries with no one near them last year?

How often does Young get a chance to whip the ball in with his right but feels the need to hold on to it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,763 ✭✭✭Jax Teller

That was disgraceful that Evra had to leave the pitch for that injury .

Some commentator said last week was saying both the injured and the offender should have to leave until they're fit to carry on .
