Lidl Receipt Faded

    Hi all,

I bought a pressure washer from Lidl a few months ago. After 3 months of use, the pump started acting up by jumping on and off when not in use. The lance also developed a pin hole leak.

I brought it back to Lidl with the receipt only to be told that you can only return in-store up to 2 months after purchase. I was told to ring customer service (it has a 3 year manufacturer's warranty) which I did and one of the things I have to provide is a copy of the receipt.

My problem is that I had the receipt in my wallet since that day and the printing on it has now faded. WHen I scan it, it comes up a tiny bit with correction and the Lidl logo on top is visible but nothing else.

Am I now fecked when it comes to getting it fixed or getting a refund?

    Thank you all in advance.

I had a problem with a faulty DVD/Hardrive unit I had bought from Lidl. I had lost my receipt though. After getting on to them they covered the unit for 3 years from date of manufacture (which was on the Serial Number), they may do this for you.

All these supermarkets use thermal paper in there tills and the print fades very quickly. When purchasing this type of item you are better off photocopying it and keep it for future ref.Bit late now but you'll know for the future.

    Thanks for the replies!

I will ring them again on monday and explain the situation. I only took the receipt out of my wallet this evening and realized it was faded.

lac - I will more than likely do this in future but I'm of the opinion that the fact that the receipt was in my wallet all this time has made it fade faster than it should have. I may well be wrong though!

It probably did fade a bit faster been in your wallet, but believe me they do fade no matter where you keep them.

It kind of goes against the whole point of issuing receipts though doesn't it? If they can't last even the warranty period of a product, they're not much use.

It does, but 99.9% of supermarket receipts are binned straight away.Just be wary if your buying electical goods with warranty. Most electrical retailers use ink printers for there receipts.

How did you pay for it? If you used a debit card then a card statement with the transaction on it will legally count as proof of purchase.

A photo of the receipt would probably show the text better than scanning.

It's not even visible on the paper. I just thought that by scanning it, creating a negative and adjusting brightness/contrast would help (I googled how to do it) but it didn't work. The other option was to use a hair dryer on it. That didn't work either.

Just for my luck, I paid with cash and I don't normally pay with cash :(

If you still have the packaging, there might be a serial number on it, which you can Google just to get proof of the age of the product. Then, if you have no help from the customer service section, go above their head to the head office. In my experience, the stores aren't great for returns, but the head office will usually listen and sort things fairly promptly.

Hi Lynda, yeah I kept everything with regard to the packaging just in case anything happened. The store would have accepted it and given me a refund had this happened within two months of purchase but that wasn't the case.

Hypothetically (since your receipt is faded and I have no idea about what happens in that situation), if you had the receipt and brought it back, while under warranty, the shop CANNOT refuse to deal with you, as your contract of purchase was with them. It doesn't matter how long it was, as long as you were still within your warranty, or within a 'reasonable' amount of time if out of warranty.

I really haven't a clue what to do with a faded receipt, but since the store seem unwilling to actually rectify the issue, I'd personally forget about the customer service section and go straight to head office, and send them a photocopy of the receipt, even if you cannot actually see what's on it.

Once the store warranty (2 months) is over, you then have a 3 year manufacturer's warranty. Customer service deal with them so I have to contact them from what I was told.

Consumer law dictates that the product must last a 'reasonable' amount of time. 2 months would most likely not be considered a reasonable amount of time, considering you obviously paid a decent amount for it as you're seeking redress for the apparent fault. Like I said, I don't know the situation with the receipt, but if you had the receipt, the shop can't fob you off after two months. Like I said, your contract is with them, as they are the vendor you purchased from.

    Hi all,

I bought a pressure washer from Lidl a few months ago. After 3 months of use, the pump started acting up by jumping on and off when not in use. The lance also developed a pin hole leak.

Not exactly what you were asking but -

If the lance has a pinhole leak it will cause the pump to come on . You may not have a problem with the pump itself.

Did the leak develop because of a faulty design or manufacture or did the lance get damaged? If the latter, you might be better trying to repair or replace the lance on it own.

had same problem after a year of owning one, my laser card account showed up i purchased items in lidl but not what items, no problem.. had a replacement in less than a month from the uk,they didnt even check the faulty washer and i gave it to someone else who repaired it for himself..

    great customer service imo

No, the pump actually started acting up from about the 3rd use and the leak started the day I took it back. I should have made it clearer but what I meant in my OP was that these 2 things were there both there within 3 months.

Europumps in Ireland are the service people for this type of pressure washer. I was out with them today as I did their website and we were actually talking about these items and I was googling them and saw your post. Call them (http://www.europumps.ie) and say Kieran sent you that should get a laugh.

They have pallets of spare parts for them out there.

I had the same given to me from Lidl last month on a freezer that was faulty after 10months of use, I had my receipt and stood my ground and would not deal with manufacturer as my contract was with Lidl, I formally requested to make a complaint and had a record of whom I spoke to in Lidl (branch and helpline) and then outlined I was going to take a Small Claims Court case against them, next day I received a letter from Lidl offering full cash refund at my local branch.
Be polite but at the same time assertive in these matters.

going on past post here if you don’t have proof of purchase Lidl are not going to be helpful, so it’s one consumers should watch for when dealing with them your best chance might be with the mnf in the serial number as for large items they usually have serial numbers which the mnf will be able to gauge the age of the product

I was able to make out from the receipt that I bought it in March of this year.

If your receipt has the date still visible, bring it to the store you purchased the pressure washer in and ask the manager(very politely) if they could check for the sale of a pressure washer on that date and if he could print a duplicate receipt for you.
If they can't print a duplicate receipt they might be able to write you out a proxy receipt on headed paper.

Not sure about Lidl but have seen it done in Aldi and as we all know...they are all the same :D

OK so I went into Lidl on Monday and spoke to the manager. He managed to read the receipt number, he wrote it down and took my mobile number and said he'd contact me. He also said that he may or may not be able to get me a copy of the receipt.

I've heard nothing from him and to be honest, I'm getting quite sick of this already.

If you took the matter to the Small Claims Court, I think it likely that the faded receipt, together with your account of how you stored it, would be accepted as sufficient proof of purchase. There is some onus on Lidl to disprove your story.

I suggest that you tell Lidl in writing that unless they resolve the matter without further delay you will make a claim through the Small Claims Court.

I will get in touch with the manager before I do that though. If I don't, they will see it as though I'm jumping the gun maybe?

Do any other stores sell this exact model of washer or is it created/branded specifically for Lidl? Maybe a call to the manufacturer to confirm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,885 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

    To confirm what fletch?

As far as I know, it's made for Lidl by Karcher but IMO, using hugely inferior parts to Karchers' own washers.

I will never again buy a Lidl or Aldi washer. I've had a few Karchers in between and they are the dogs!
