hi i am just wondering how long ye spend in the gym every evening.i have made up a routine for myself at home which is as follows mondays;biceps and triceps tuesdays;back traps forearms wednesday;chest and abdomin and back to biceps and triceps again for thursday and so on with a rest day on sunday .i currently spend only a half hour an evening doing my weight routine,is this enough? for example monday preacher curls on a bench 3 sets of 10 reps at 35kg maybe 2 mins between sets and for triceps lying down tricep extensions 3 sets of 10 again at 45kg and also dips off a bench of 3 sets of 10 and by this stage my arms are fully shaged at the last few reps of each i am pushing to finish .this all only takes about a half hour and the same on the other days, i am using enough weight to just be able do 10 reps .i kinda feel bad when i here of people spending 2 hours in the gym and i wonder how the hell can they last as long or are they using light weight or what .i am 6ft1 90kg male and am getting my 200 grams of protein per day ,take 1 shake in the morning and i excersise around nine at night and i take a double shake after that which is altogether around 70grams protein and the rest is in good food during the day

If you feel you're getting a workout then half an hour is more than enough.

I suspect the people you might find spending 2 hours in the gym aren't spending the majority of that duration working out.

I spend ages in the gym; most of my time there is taken up having enormous ****es. My actual workout time could be condensed to a little over an hour. 31 and a half minutes running (yes, 31 and a half: I'm ocd) and about 30 to 40 minutes weights training.

From the moment I walk into the gym to the moment I walk back out (after having showered), it takes my about an hour. Work out time varies between 30 - 45 mins depending on what workout I'm doing.

One question, why aren't you working out your legs??

45 minutes to an hour does the trick.

Are you saying you do 6 days straight and then take sunday off?

40 minutes foam rolling, stretching, warm up, core work - 45 minutes
then lift some weights for 25 minutes

Depends on the muscles every day, Usually 2 hours for me.

20 minutes rehab on my leg. 10 minute foam rolling. 90mins workout.

How come you don't train legs and shoulders?

It seems you are doing very little, have you seen gains? Why not up the weight a small bit for 8 reps or 6 reps etc....

yea 6 days then sunday off but im leaving two full days between using the same muscle again so i thought that would be enough time to heal again, yea i am gonna have to start shoulders with my chest days but i feel my shoulders are being worked with my chest and traps anyway and i was born with big legs so i wont look out of proportion by any means and i know people are gonna say i have to work legs but :P,,and i used to always be messing around with weights and doing arms every day but since i have started leaving a few days rest between them i feel much stronger and arms are much fuller looking if that makes sense

Just my opinion, I think 6 days on the go is a bit much. Your body needs rest, not just the muscle you worked.

I used to do 4 days straight but was getting nowhere really so i split them days up throughout the week giving my body a proper rest.

I found it hard to believe, when I was working out in a very physical job my muscle mass never grew, just was toned and fat was burned.

As I got older I put on more weight as I started working more and excercising less.
4 Months ago I started back at Gym work for the first time really.
I did Gym work 2 years ago , but only Circuit training.

Now my Biceps/Triceps feel tight inside some T-Shirt and Shirt Sleeves.
I can leg press 200kg with ease and Bench press 60 kg with relative ease.

My trick was, I Listened to advice I got and exercise less than I would have thought, but more focussed.(Lifting weights 3 times correctly is better than 10 times badly)
I leave good rest Gaps and only work out 3-4 times per 7 day week Max.

I am far from perfect, but I can see improvements in myself and others ask Have I lost weight? Even though I actually am heavier now than I was before.

So I would guess, in my limited experience.
Do heavier weights, and only go to the gym every second day. Say Monday Wed and Fri and perhaps do some leisure activity outdoors at the weekend.
    walking/Hiking/Football etc

My personal goal is 100kg Bench press. I do not know if I can reach that, but I will try. I am currently maxed at bench pressing 66kg so I have a long way to go yet, as every kg over 60 was like adding 10kg for me.

    Hope this helps

45-60 mins would be good enough for me.

Why are you working out your arms so much?

Having a training partner might encourage you to work out through the tiredness, and help ensure correct form
