I got the Quiz today and was really confused looking at the threads here. THEN I realised that there are TWO quizzes this year and you guys are talking about one with the sub-title of 'Holly Bough' or something similar. This must have been posted before the one that is now on the site. Anybody doing the 'new' quiz ?

The quiz in this thread is in some newspaper.

Might as well start a new thread for the online Christmas Cracker one. Well spotted by the way.

Yeah - I guess you're right !! May as well start the thread coz anybody starting the quiz from now on will get this version as distinct from the Holly Bough verson.
    Cheers Brian T. !!

Hi all, Just stuck on one
    55) on the 1st D of J 1892 (I have seen this answered as 1st day of January 1892 Ellis Island opened but there is no reference to Ellis Island in the "clue")

Nobody seems to have come up with a better answer.

It's possible they made a mistake in the question and left the end out (it doesn't make sense as a phrase as it is).

Nothing much seems to have happened on either the first of June or the first of July.

If it is a mistake they will probably not count the question anyway.

It's 'On the First Day of January'. It's part of a poem about the first person to enter Ellis Island after it opened. There's a statue to her on the pier in Cobh
