Kia's new flagship motor, but it's almost a 7 series.

    Launch engines in Korea include a 300 PS (221 kW; 296 bhp) 3.3-L (3342cc) V6 and a 334 PS (246 kW; 329 bhp) 3.8-L (3778cc) GDI direction-injection V6,[4] coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

    7 series front + 5 series rear + Volvo alloys =

    Nice engine choices though :)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Kia making luxury saloons? They'll probably do well in the US

Toyota did the same thing 20 odd years ago :D

    Thats a fantastic effort imo.
What kind of money I wonder.

    It's nice any prices yet.

They have to be artists impressions, thats shocking similar to an F01.

A brilliant effort from kia, i don't like that front grill do. A car that looks this good really has big shoes to fill in therms of build quality and driving dynamics. Looking forward to seeing some reviews. Its one to keep an eye on.

Interesting point, can car manufacturers actually patient a design ?

    FWD, RWD or AWD?
It's got the sloping rear end from a Lexus GS.

Most cars look alike these days anyway so my answer would be no!

Here are some actual pictures of one spotted in Canada. Looks even better imo.

Front grill is a bit odd looking

I agree that most cars look the same but cars from different manufactures generally look different. I.e. The BMW 3 and 5 series look very similar and even the 7 series looks similar to a 5 but no BMW looks like an audi ect..

That rear quarter view on the kia looks ever familiar but i can't put my finger on it

Look epic form the back, i really like the big shoulder line running to the front.

Their is two much going on at the front do, I don't like the square design inside the lights and i know the grill is a trademark of kia cars but it just don't work on this car makes the front look pinched or something

Looks very impressive apart from the grill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

    What kinda price we talkin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,564 ✭✭✭AugustusMinimus

Saying this looks like a 7 series would be doing it a diservice.

    Looks much better in fact.

The rear is very like the LS460.Its a great looking motor though.

Wow, this actually does look really well! Though all of Kia's new range look good IMO.
330bhp RWD and presumably cheaper than a 5 series (let alone the 7), sure originality would be nice, but this is good enough. :D

Well compared to an auris anything would. I made sure he drove everything else worth buying and it was this or a Golf. The all round package won the day.

True they are a great buy. Its just a pity they didn't build this car in 2006 and they would have sold shed loads of them.:) I cannot see a huge market at the moment.

There wasn't anything wrong with the model that came out then either.

I like the car posted, although those wheels on the second car don't help it at all.

Saw one at the Sydney Motor Show -

    img_6237.jpg

Don't particularly like it, but am not a fan of the new 5 series or 7 series either, and it is pretty similar. Kia do have some of the better designed cars out on the market these days - same guy who designed the original TT is their design head unless I'm mistaken.

Grill doesn't suit it, I like the details, especially the headlights. LED?

They do have a whif of Amstrad alright.. :D

I think those LED lights up front look cool, I have never seen them before.

Have to say Kia are bringing out some great looking cars. Much better looking than the majority of Toyotas.

    Hopefully its RWD

Great engines, looks awesome, combined with a 7 year warrenty

    Where do I sign lmao

Jesus, forgot about the 7 year warranty. That's longer than most will ever own a car for. Trouble free motoring for 2 or even three owners.

They will probably price themselves out of it. The optima is already passat/superb price. I don't know how big this car is or where they intend to position it but if they put it near 5 series / A6 / E Class, well I cannot see it selling even if far ahead on spec.

I'd say it'll do well here I'd say, we love a good bargain over here. Even if it isn't really all that cheap. :p

They really are. They are a company delivering quality and now stunning looks to go with it.

The 7 year warranty is a huge bonus. The ads on the radio say it all. "My children will be grown up before the warranty is finished"

Kia have come on leaps and bounds lately. Any body who dismisses a Kia due to the badge is simply living in the past. They probably meet the true wants and needs of 90% of Irish motorist. But because its Kia and not BMW, merc, VW ect. on the badge they wont even consider it. Its there loss really.

Give me a big displacement n/a straight 6 beemer over a kia any day do.

Hmmm... one of these with a 7 year warranty and 5/7-series looks for half the price (guesstimating) of the "real thing"....

Dunno though.......half the price of a 7 series is still 50 grand region. Are people spending that much really gonna buy a Kia?

    Why not?
If it's a well specced and good looking car, why should it matter what badge is on the bonnet?

Well, yes, but so would a 1967 Ford Anglia estate.

Well, yes, but so would a 1967 Ford Anglia estate.

But in today's world of high fuel costs, NCT, extortionate motor tax not to mention safety a 1967 Ford Anglia isn't a viable option.

Id love to own one, i have a thing for classic cars but as a daily driver its a non runner.

They buy Lexusses. OK, only 10% as many Lexusseses as BMWs, 15% as many as Mercedes but the Germans have bigger ranges.

Still, it shows that you can cog off Geman designs and charge plenty, even if your reputation is based on making boring, bread-and-butter reliable cars like Toyotas, so why not Kia?

Surely they are not going to pitch it against 7 series though. More like a 5 series competitor. If it's a 5 series competitor, price is going to be a problem given their pricing on other models. I don't see sales flooding in either if it's a 7 series spec car for 5 series money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

I'd say it'll be more about the 35000 mark, that makes it 7 series spec (ish) for 3 series money. Badge snobs will probably still go for the Beemer, which will realistically depreciate at about the same rate anyway, but it'd be very popular with fleet, company car and rental markets.
