How does one go about cleansing his stomach/colon?

    Greetings,

I was searching around a little on the web and I've drawn some knowledge but I'm unsure on which is correct and which is easiest.

I hear eating oranges on a hungry stomach does the charm, I read that this is because of the alkaline, though I'm unsure about this.

I also read fasting for 12+ hours, with only drinking water also works, but would that not cause a strain on your stomach?

There is a couple of other ancient Indian and African remedies I hear but they all seem pretty extreme.

I've been told, apparently, that a trip to the doctor can clean your colon via medical methods but they're quite expensive and only really recommended for medical emergencies.

So, back to the question, does anyone with experience preferably or acurate knowledge know some natural or home remidies to do the trick?

    Thanks in advance ladies/gents.

Why the hell would your stomach or colon need cleansing? All sounds like BS to me

Are you an idiot, sir? If you do not have anything constructive to say then why reply with such nonsense?

That said. There is many reasons why a stomach or colom would need cleansing, here's a copy and paste because I wouldn't waste my energy typing for you.

"Almost everyone knows the importance of a healthy digestive system. When our insides function at their best, it shows in our skin, our hair and even our happy smiles. Keeping your digestive system healthy in a main way involves getting rid of unhealthy toxins and trapped food particles in your stomach and colon"

There is also many other reasons why, if you know how to use Google and were actually serious in your question, then go ahead and try that.

I worked with a guy who swore by monthly water fasting. IIRC he would go 36 or 48 hours without food, just water every month .

TBH a 12 hour fast is pretty lame, You have to do 14 hours before a full blood test and there are some seriously ill people doing that regularly.

You should probably be more selective about what you read on the internet. Colon cleansing is utter quackery with no medical or scientific backing whatsoever.

A good rule of thumb is that anything that refers to vague unspecified "toxins" is bull****.

Sea salt (not regular table salt) in a pint glass of with luke warm water, and a bit of lemon juice. Get a few of those in you on an empty stomach and bob's your uncle. It's best to do it while you're gonna be at home for the whole day!

Yep, spending the day puking with the scutts, what could possibly be better for you?

As an added bonus, it will knock the arse out of your kidneys, which are the ones that would otherwise be removing the dreaded anonymous toxins from your body in the first place.

Listen op, there's no need to go trying to clean out your colon or any other part of your body with some traditional voodoo magic practiced by the ancients. We've all evolved with organs whose specific job it is to remove all that badness.

If you've a bit of a dodgy tummy, pay attention to what you've been eating, too much rich food does it to me. Stay off it, or don't go overboard, eat plenty of veg, and you'll be fine.

By goddin' I dunno what you've being doing to yourself but you shouldn't be puking!! None of the above happens when you take sea salt in water, except the scutts of course! And sure a good auld shyte never hurt anyone..

So that's why diarrhea is such a welcome and coveted sickness! Escuse me while I lick some e.coli off the floor of a public toilet.

I wouldn't advise that at all, sure you'd be gawking for a few days after! But if you insist on doing it, Supermacs would be a good spot for that sorta stuff! Enjoy it.

No not an idiot and you actually didnt give me one single reason for cleansing!

My post was constructive, it implied not to waste your time with BS treatments.

In fact all that i have read on the subject has suggested that it is dangerous as you may flush away the billions of good bacteria in your gut.

There is lots of crazy dangerous stuff on the internet about this whole cleansing yourself thing..

Two lads I worked with had a go at this a few years ago, one ended in hospital for a week and the other swore never again and said that he would get diarrhoea very easily since...

    Its just rubbish..

If you eat a good varied diet, plenty of fresh veg and fruit your good to go.

    Ask a stupid question.....

Any toxins in your bloodstream are removed by these handy little organs called kidneys. Anything that's left in your colon has never been in your bloodstream, it's waste. As such, it'll be disposed of when it gets to the end of the line. Great little system, really.

if you want the things to move faster and smoother try psyllium husks. you can buy it in the health stores.

Go to a Naturopath if you want to try natural/herbal methods. Drinking Green Clay for instance.

How exactly would drinking clay rid the body of toxins?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Selfheal

Apparently it has super-absorbent properties and the molecular structure of the clay hoovers up all the toxins, while simultaneously having a very high mineral content and replenishing you with minerals. Just Google green clay and you'll get the low down on the science...

Google anything and youll find it has great benefits for this and that and available for a small price ;-)

Seriously just cause its written on some webpage doesnt mean its true.

Without googling it it sounds strange that this clay loves 'toxins' as its super absorbant but yet it mysteriously excretes super good minerals.

And you should be providing the proof to these claims not telling people to go google.

What the point of cleansing out your colon when its going to be covered in ****e again in a few hours. Your stomach also contains Acid which breaks down everything you eat inside your stomach, what is the point of this thread exactly?
The only way you should cleanse yourself is by eating fresh and healthy food with plenty of water. All that crap you read on the internet is bull ****.

A few pints of Beamish is your only man for removing nasties from your insides.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭areyawell

I read on Google that if you say Biggie Smalls 3 times while looking in a mirror he appears and will attempt to pop a cap in your ass. Wouldn't attempt to try it since some site on Google said its true

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,208 ✭✭✭fatmammycat

I know nothing about magical clay that can hoover up toxins, but a colon has a specific purpose in the body, as do the kidneys and the liver. None of these organs need a 'cleanse', but benefit rather from support. A clean diet and limited alcohol would be far more useful to a body than ingesting clay or any other harsh substance I imagine ( sea salt? really?)

Would that be the same sea salt that's disolved in sea water, thus rendering it completely unsuitable to drink? Lethal in fact, if you drink too much? Strikes me as extremely bad advice.
Op, your colon is self cleaning - just stop shoveling rubbish in at the other end and it will be squeaky clean in a few days all by it self. Don't knowingly drink poison for "health reasons" - it's fúcking idiotic, to say the very least.

I love the indignation from the OP :D They were so set in their mind that it's a great idea to cleanse your bunghole that they were skipping past confirming that and straight to determining the best brand of bleach to pour up their arse.

We don't take kindly to people calling eachother names. I'd suggest reigning that in.

In other news, it's a Nutrition and Diet Forum. Pseudoscience doesn't really belong here. Funnily enough humans have been doing pretty well at colon cleansing without too much intervention for 100,000 years or so. I think we're done here.
