Once your back is holding up that's the main thing! Get the roller on the calves? I use the stick, and/or massage them myself, usually works. Yea lucky enough to be getting all my runs done the last few weeks anyway. Got the new adrenaline today same as yourself, very cosy! And he threw in a pair of 1000 mile socks.

Yeah, will do some rolling tomorrow. Not surprised you need new shoes with the mileage you are doing. Really happy with my new ones, they are definitely the best shoe i've had. Were you offered the GTS 13s or try them on?

I think I'll look out for a cheap pair online and keep a second pair till the summer.

    13.35 miles @9:00 avg

Up nice and early for an 8am start for long run with small group from club. Good run, good company, good start to the day.

Off to see Shelbourne vs Shamrock Rovers today, not because of a new found love for league of Ireland football or anything but my son is playing at half time with his club so looking forward to that and it is his 12th Birthday too! Jeez don't they grow up fast...

Hope your son's match went well!

Glad we went the direction we did this morning and sneakily avoided some of that wind. Sorry not to see you after - didn't realise you were going on a bit further. People often go for breakfast after - I know you have kids & probably have to get home, but some along some time if you have time.

Thanks Helen. I popped into clubhouse after alright in case there might still be a few there but everyone had gone already. I'll be down on Wednesday night for Holland Cup race so maybe see you there.

Oh sorry! We were over in the River Café behind Supervalu! (That's where people always go). Also, usually there are WAY more people out on a Sunday so people would be getting back to the clubhouse at varied times from about 9 until about 10.30ish, it's just that so many people were in Dunboyne or Craughwell yesterday.

Denise was praising your very even pacing yesterady & hoping you'd be down to the long runs again.

Was considering a recovery run today but ditched it in favour of some stretching and foam rolling since I've got that feeling of a bad cold coming on. have been coughing last day or so and had to have a lemsip earlier today. Hope it doesn't get any worse. I think the running in the rain a lot recently might be catching up on me.

Hamstring were fierce tight so some stretching was well needed and haven't rolled in a while so that was fun!

Did club race tonight, a short loop around Raheny area. Not ideal prep going into it, no run since Sunday since have a bit of a cold but felt ok to do it so thought it might be a good opportunity to meet some more new people from club. And who should I bump into there only Walkedit..great to meet you again M.

Finished the 2.8mi race in 19:27 which I was pretty happy with as I reckon if it was a full 5k race I would have posted a new PB (currently 22:47). I hadn't a clue what my pace was at any stage since I wasn't wearing any watch of any description , I just know I went off pretty fast, faster than I should have.

Slight negative was that my hamstring cramped up with a hundred metres or so to go so hope I haven't done too much damage. Probably will need a few days enforced rest while that heals:(

Will go against my OCD tendencies here and round up to 3 miles to include the warmup beforehand.:)

Feels like the hamstring is improving.Reckon I could get out for a short one in next couple of days to test it out. Hope so anyway as I've been stuffing my face the last couple of days with chocolate!

Interestingly my old back injury has reared it's ugly head after 5 days of no running. Just a bit sore but will have to watch that one. Think I will try some stretching rolling and static bike work tonight to at least burn some of the billion calories I've consumed in last few days...damn Easter eggs:)

Know how you feel leg is still sore, went to test it out last Thursday still sore feels better but not going to risk it, replacing my runs with easter eggs. Just on the bike and stretching

    Therein lies your hamstring problem....

Indeed...the linkage hadn't passed me by. The hamstring injury I had earlier in year was other leg but I've always had issues with the hammers and always had some lower back issues too. Strengthen lower back, daily stretching and work on core must be the answer for me in long term.

40 mins on the bike and some stretching and foam rolling done. Watched a film on Netflix while on the bike about these three guys who ran across the Sahara called "Running the Sahara" funnily enough. Was quite interesting. They ran for 111 days averaging two marathons a day, savage stuff.

Are they many running films on Netflix? considering getting it.
Rest up big time... let that Hamstring & Back settle down.
You have been doing a good bit lately!

Not sure Stephen but usually when you've watched a movie on Netflix the next time you login you get a new choice list "Because you've watched x" so ther might be others . Will let you know. You get a free months trial so it's worth checking out.

On the injury, don't worry, won't do anything foolish. I'm older and wiser these days. DCM13 is the main goal this year.

Yeah, what are we like, feckin crocks. As my hamstring seems to be improving now my back problem is starting to worry me and today I've been having dizzy spells too:mad:

I've got a full health screen next week, went for the full "Executive" option so the timing seems to be good!:)

Glad to see you are back running again, hopefully I'll be joing you soon.

20 mins stretching followed by 40 mins (20k) on the exercise bike. Think I'll chance a short run at recovery pace tomorrow night.

Hamstring had been feeling better an no pain when stretching so even though the back is bothering me at the moment I said I'd go out for a short slow run just to get the legs moving again and see how it felt and hopefully it might loosen up the back.

I thought I was running easy as it felt so very comfortable...then I realised I had the wind at my back:rolleyes:. Was going to do an out and back which I knew was a little over three miles. The wind was against me on the way back but felt strong so it didnt really bother me though. Towards end of run the hamstring was letting me know it was there and not to do anything silly like do a sprint finish or anything! But it was fine and did plenty of stretching afterwards.Back was good immediately after run but it is annoying me now so I'll just have to be careful and hope it sorts itself out soon.

Hotwater bottle now alternating between back and hamstring:rolleyes:

In the end the run was a little faster than I had planned but great to get out again and feel the road under my feet.

Sorry to see you're injured, but glad to see you're getting back! I know all about it, have been pretty much out for the past 4 weeks - every time I start running again my knee starts hurting. But done 3 miles/day the past 3 days without major pain. And don't talk to me about chocolate - not brave enough to put up my weight table!

Thanks P..Thought you'd gone a little quiet on the log alright. 4 weeks off would kill me. Take it easy and gently does it for next few weeks. Is it runner's knee you have or something different do you know?

Work's been a bit bananas so haven't been to a physio yet, so don't know. Don't think it's quite as straightforward as runner's knee, and think a lot of it is probably down to my running technique! Done lots of stretching over the past few days, and that seems to be making a difference, so fingers crossed!

Was in two minds about doing this but since I'm trying to encourage people from work to do these events , felt obliged to go out and do it.

Hamstring had felt ok during week so thought i'd chance it and not go for broke but run it hard enough to beat by previous 4 mile best of 31:00.

You can see where this is going now can't you..... yes at mile three the hamstring screamed at me and I had to hold back completely. Tried to keep it going without pulling on the hammer too much but was disappointing. Obviously too early to go back into a race..feck it anyway. So GIR is definitely in doubt now for next week.

Good to see so many Boardsies today, well done to Skidrow, DaveMcMahon, Digger (who I chatted a bit to on the first lap)and Claralara(Well done on your 3rd place)...looking good for Boston guys!

Anyway back to my race went.I was never going to go for broke in this one but did want to post a new PB which i reckoned I could do comfortably.

THis race was 2 x 2mile laps in StAnnes park in Raheny ,lovely setting, lovely weather this morning too.Went a little fast out on first mile so held back a little for mile 2 and 3 and then just after mile 3 marker I felt my hamstring go so had to slow down in order to limit the damage. I just don't do DNFs so kept going in order to finish and that I did in an unofficial time per Garmin of 29:34. New PB by well over a minute so all things considered not bad despite the last mile.

    Now for injury recovery .....Take2!

2.84 miles warmup follwed by 3.98 race distance brings total today to 6.82 miles.

    Splits were 6:59,7:19,7:29,7:56
