Wasn't it beautiful the way it was? Such a pity they couldn't have worked with what was there instead of losing the run of themselves and giving us the monstrosity (regardless of it's state of completeness) we now have. It's a real blot on the town.

    Hi All,

We would like to reiterate that we have placed our petition in three different spots in Greystones :

    - The Fine Food Store, Blacklion shopping centre (near Curves)

    - The Happy Pear in the village.

We would like to ask you for picture of the North Beach from 2008 and 2012 where the slope at the site of the old Gap Bridge can be seen.

    Thank you.

Thank you Pixy John for these amazing pictures. Is it ok to use them as a documentation in the picture time line of the area that we are preparing?
Please PM us with authorizations to download your pictures from flickers.

    Hi all,

We are back again! After few of us had to deal with some health issues we are back on the bridge, as eager as before to get an access to the North Beach where the old Gap Bridge was, opened.

During the winter things have, I think, become more of a global issue to get the North Beach looked after by who ever is responsible for that. The damages done by the weather to the cliffs and the beach have made the beach very unsafe.

Then, the layout of the beach has naturally changed over the passed few monthes. It looks like that the beach is split in two. Most of the time it is virtually impossible to cross the river just before the site of the old gap bridge. And it looks that in a near future this is going to be worth. In result people cannot go any further towards the North end of the beach!

Based on the development plan past and new, occasional accesses to the beach along the Bray walk is to be offered to the public. The plan also say that the beach has to be protected up to 250 metres past the gap bridge from the harbour.
To us three issues need to be addressed by who is/are responsible for the development and protection of the beach and cliffs :

    - Where and when is the protection of the beach and cliffs is going to start?

    - The state of the beach and cliffs made the beach quite hazardous for walkers, what is going to be done about the safety of the public?

    - The access to the beach from the harbour is not sufficient to allow full access to the beach and to allow a safe use of the area. The only solution is to open the beach pass the river, so at the site of the old gap bridge.

I base myself upon pictures - http://m.facebook.com/yann.seite.54 - that I took over the winter and discussions with tourists and walkers on the beach during Paddy's day bank holiday week-end. The situation has reached a critical point and it seems that people are getting ennoyed about the whole situation. This is where our issue of the access at the end of Ennis Lane meets issues that are more global.

Please help us by collecting signatures for our petition (petition sheets available by e-mailing me at reachforthebeach.greystones@gmail.com), talk to your local representatives and give us your experience of the North Beach here on this thread, by e-mail or on our facebook page (facebook reach for the beach). Thank you

Another 2 pictures illustrating what has happened on the beach...also, illustrating the fact that if anyone walking the beach manages to get past this chasm, there is always the risk of the tide coming in, and no exit off the beach till they are right back down to 'The Cove' again...
