Sugar addiction and fat loss

Well bit of background about me.

I'm young, and pretty strong and muscular for my age. I've been trying to lose some body fat lately, but am having some serious trouble with! I'd wager I'm around 13-15% bodyfat at the moment.

I realise that my diet is the main thing I'll have to sort out to get to 10% bodyfat or even lower. I've been following a high protein, moderate carb and low fat macronutrient plan, but one aspect that I haven't been to control at all is late night sugar cravings.

There are extremely strong and once I start I can't really stop. I wouldn't even crave starchy carbs like bread or pasta like a lot of people, just need that sugar hit in soft drinks or sweets! :( Naturally this has led to serious difficulty dropping any fat.

Any tips on me getting rid of my sugar obsession? Any idea if this is physical dependence my body has built up, or purely psychological Anyone managed to do it before?

Stop giving into your cravings and eventually they will go away.

Read a thing the other day though that a teaspoon of coconut oil gets rid of sugar cravings. Not sure how true it is though.

another method is to knock back a pint or 2 of water, and say to yourself if im still craving in 20 minutes ill give in to it, ive known this to work for me.

Your blood sugar is dropping as your body is recovering from your exercise during the day. The muscles basically pull the sugar from your blood stream to replace the used up glycogen. What time of day are you eating your carbs at?

Some people think you should only eat them early in the day as "you use them over night and they turn into fat". This is bull if your exercising/active my sugars drop 4-6 hours after a work out.

Try getting a small box of orange juice the kind that kids have in their lunch box. Just drink one when you feel like this and then wait 15 mins and see if that sorts you out.

I get these cravings as well and find them very difficult to deal with, though what has worked for me of late is to eat fresh pineapple. Pick up a couple of punnets in your local store, keep them in the fridge and eat some in the evening. Obviously there's sugar in it, but the flavour and taste makes me forget all about wanting sweets or chocolate.

Nothing wrong with eating sugars late at night providing they fit your macros. If you are following your macros and these 'sugars' fit them fire ahead.

Try some fruit instead. I usually grab a bit of pineapple, some grapes or an apple just before bed for my sugars!

I must admit I crave sugar late at night too, usually in the form of a galaxy caramel though :-)

as mentioned I would be looking at the timing of your carb intake, changing the times you eat could have a huge bearing on those cravings for you.
